I was so very sad to hear of your passing tonight.

You were such a gift, your talent will leave a wide gap in the literary world and will be sadly missed.

One of my favourite songs:

There are so many renditions of this song by many artists, it is just so beautiful.

Canadian singer-songwriter, Gordon Lightfoot died last week. I decided to make a Spotify playlist of his songs and discovered that one of the songs on this album is about a Persian cat. I've listened to it innumerable times and always assumed "Daylight Katy" was a woman. Lightfoot was a special and talented man who leaves behind a legacy of wonderful music!

Another conceptual art collaboration featuring the amazing Kendra Warren (model, singer, songwriter).

A little background on this image.

One of my favorite kinds of images to make are those that tell a story.

This one began as an idea I got from a picture I saw which featured a girl sitting by the side of the road looking into the distance.

I really liked the story it told of solitude and traveling. Kendra and I had talked about making this sort of image before and I was very glad that she liked the idea too. I wanted the picture to be moody, engaging and painterly.

Before shooting, Kendra hit the local thrift shops and somehow (to me) found the perfect wardrobe for what we wanted to do. I will not recommend anyone to shoot on a railroad that isn't out of service but I didn't know where any were that had the horizon view I needed so we both took the chance... Working with a knowledgeable model certainly makes the photographers job a breeze. I have been fortunate so far that all the models I've worked with have been the best. Kendra basically had the pose nailed down from the start but we still tried variations just to be sure. We had the perfect flat light that I wanted for composite work and the shoot went very smoothly.

Once I had the image in photoshop it was mostly just a matter of finding the right images to composite for the story I wanted to tell and putting them together. Some of them I found quickly and some of them took a while.

There is a definite skill to compositing and the work that Leah and I have been doing has really tested my abilities and made us both better in a relatively short amopunt of time.

This image was standard sort of composite work with resizing of elements, color toning, contrast, transforming, lighting and blur adjustmenmts. After I had some of the elements together and the feel of the image was beginning to form I sent various versions to Kendra and got her input for some very important changes and additions (a bit like the way Leah and I work together but with Leah sometimes we both will work on the image separately depending on who is better at what). In this pic at first I was just hoping I could do justice for the work that Kendra had put into it but slowly it came together and then I was only hoping that she liked it as much as I. A little more collaboration and finessing and it was done.

I had the great fortune to shoot with rising

star, singer-songwriter Aubrey Burchell. This industrious songstress is busy gigging around the local area, and beyond, while also creating original songs, the next of which will be released during the coming month or so.

Her musical stylings convey a bold contemporary vibe with undertones of blues and funk. Be sure to catch her at one of Westmoreland County's many cozy local live music venues, or find her work online!
