I was so very sad to hear of your passing tonight.

You were such a gift, your talent will leave a wide gap in the literary world and will be sadly missed.

One of my favourite songs:

There are so many renditions of this song by many artists, it is just so beautiful.

(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay

Otis Redding

Sittin' in the mornin' sun

I'll be sittin' when the evenin' comes

Watchin' the ships roll in

Then I watch 'em roll away again

I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay

Watchin' the tide, roll away

I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay

Wastin' time

I left my home in Georgia

And I headed for the Frisco Bay

'Cause I've got nothin' to live for

Looks like nothin's gonna come my way, so

I'm just come sittin' on the dock of the bay

Watchin' the tide roll away

I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay, wastin' time

Looks like nothin's gonna change

Everything seems to stay the same

I can't do what ten people tell me to do

So I guess I'll remain the same

I'm sittin' here restin' my bones

And this loneliness won't leave me alone

This two thousand miles I roamed

Just to make this dock my home

Now I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay

Watchin' the tide roll away

Sittin' on the dock of the bay

I'm wastin' time

Finally getting back to the Gym after a lengthy absence.

Fortunately, I still have my “work-out” soundtrack on my phone, and Donovan sang “Catch the Wind” while I was working the machines... and thinking about a title for this Pic.

"Catch the Wind" is a song written and recorded by Scottish singer-songwriter Donovan. "Catch the Wind" was released in 1965. The single reached No. 4 in the United Kingdom singles chart.

The Sandhill Crane:

These tall, gray-bodied, crimson-capped birds breed in open wetlands, fields, and prairies across North America. They group together in great numbers, filling the air with distinctive rolling cries. Mates display to each other with exuberant dances that retain a gangly grace.

The Sandhill Crane’s call is a loud, rolling, trumpeting sound whose unique tone is a product of anatomy: Sandhill Cranes have long tracheas (windpipes) that coil into the sternum and help the sound develop a lower pitch and harmonics that add richness.

Sandhill Cranes are known for their dancing skills. Courting cranes stretch their wings, pump their heads, bow, and leap into the air in a graceful and energetic dance.

Although some start breeding at two years of age, Sandhill Cranes may reach the age of seven before breeding. They mate for life—which can mean two decades or more—and stay with their mates year-round. Juveniles stick close by their parents for 9 or 10 months after hatching.

The earliest Sandhill Crane fossil, estimated to be 2.5 million years old, was unearthed in Florida.

Sandhill Crane chicks can leave the nest within 8 hours of hatching, and are even capable of swimming.

The oldest Sandhill Crane on record was at least 37 years, 3 months old. Originally banded in Florida in 1982, it was found in Wisconsin in 2019.

Childhood living is easy to do

The things you wanted I bought them for you

Graceless lady you know who I am

You know I can't let you slide through my hands

Wild horses couldn't drag me away

Wild, wild horses couldn't drag me away

I watched you suffer a dull aching pain

Now you've decided to show me the same

No sweeping exit or offstage lines

Could make me feel bitter or treat you unkind

Wild horses couldn't drag me away

Wild, wild horses couldn't drag me away

I know I've dreamed you a sin and a lie

I have my freedom but I don't have much time

Faith has been broken tears must be cried

Let's do some living after we die

Wild horses couldn't drag me away

Wild, wild horses we'll ride them some day

Wild horses couldn't drag me away

Wild, wild horses we'll ride them some day

God sent His son, they called Him, Jesus;

He came to love, heal and forgive;

He lived and died to buy my pardon,

An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives!

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,

Because He lives, all fear is gone;

Because I know He holds the future,

And life is worth the living,

Just because He lives!

I walked out, I said, "I'm setting you free"

But the monsters turned out to be just trees

When the sun came up, you were looking at me

You were looking at me, oh

Lyrics

Old pirates, yes, they rob I

Sold I to the merchant ships

Minutes after they took I

From the bottomless pit

But my hand was made strong

By the hand of the Almighty

We forward in this generation

Triumphantly

Won't you help to sing

These songs of freedom?

'Cause all I ever have

Redemption songs

Redemption songs

Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery

None but ourselves can free our minds

Have no fear for atomic energy

'Cause none of them can stop the time

How long shall they kill our prophets

While we stand aside and look? Ooh

Some say it's just a part of it

We've got to fullfil the book

Won't you help to sing

These songs of freedom?

'Cause all I ever have

Redemption songs

Redemption songs

Redemption songs

Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery

None but ourselves can free our mind

Woah, have no fear for atomic energy

'Cause none of them-a can-a stop-a the time

How long shall they kill our prophets

While we stand aside and look?

Yes, some say it's just a part of it

We've got to fullfill the book

Won't you help to sing

These songs of freedom?

'Cause all I ever had

Listen As I Lay Me Down - Sophie B. Hawkins

Sophie Ballantine Hawkins (born November 1, 1967, in Manhattan, New York City, U.S.) is an American singer, songwriter, musician and painter. Her biggest hits are "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover," "Right Beside You," and "As I Lay Me Down." Her debut album, Tongues and Tails, was released in 1992. It achieved both worldwide commercial success and critical acclaim, earning her a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist in 1993. The single "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover" went to #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles' chart in the USA. Whaler, her second album, was released in 1994. It also contained a Top 10 hit, the song "As I Lay Me Down." A 1998 documentary by Gigi Gaston, entitled The Cream Will Rise, follows her during one of her tours and captures her struggle to deal with past trouble with her family, including her mother and brother. Music and riffs by Hawkins are included throughout the film. Timbre was re-released in 2001 on her own label, Trumpet Swan Productions. It was bundled with a bonus disc containing new songs, demos, remixes, and videos. Her first independently recorded and released album, Wilderness, was released in 2004. In August 2007, Hawkins headlined the first Los Angeles Women's Music Festival in support of the festival's dual agenda of supporting animal rescue groups and promoting and supporting female musicians. Hawkins is a vegan and a long-time supporter of animal rights. In February 2008, Hawkins re-recorded her hit "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover" as Damn We Wish You Were President in support of presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Hawkins wrote, "Hillary Clinton's achievements come from her heart. She has initiated so much positive change for families, children, victims of crime and the environment in her struggle for the forward movement of America and the working people of this nation"

In 2000 I gave some lyrics, which Sean O'Leary worked up into a CD that became "Songs of Experience"...a vague link with William Blake, well at least the title!

Sean's recent album The Alchemist is a double CD of musical adaptations of the Jesuit poet Gerard Manley Hopkins work. In my opinion Sean is a very underated musician and songwriter, it has been a pleasure to know him and on occasions work with him.

www.gerardmanleyhopkins.net/

O’Leary has done what I never thought I would hear: a wonderfully new, electrically charged version of the poet dearest to the heart of many of us.

Paul Mariani's review

Poet & Writer Paul Mariani holds a Chair in English at Boston College and is currently writing a biography of Hopkins.

O'Leary has been compared to Dylan and Johnny Cash. His eclectic sound incorporates chants and hymn-like compositions.

No lover of poetry, no lover of G M Hopkins, no one with a splash of nature mysticism in their veins, and certainly no Christian should be without this deeply-moving and inspirational album.

SONGS OF EXPERIENCE

Songs Of Experience were written by Sean O'Leary (Lyrics and Music) and Martin Beek (Lyrics) during autumn 2001.

The songs on this album have been selected from a much larger body of work that was written and recorded over a period of three months.

Martin would send me his lyric-poems and as I read ones of particular interest, a melody would come quickly to me. These initial ideas I recorded with guitar, piano or mandolin whilst simultaneously adapting and changing the lyrics as the melodies necessitated. Some required almost no additional material; with others significant structural and content changes were necessary.

I would normally begin recording the song within a short space of time while the inspiration was fresh. I recorded about 100 songs altogether in many different styles.

Sean O'Leary

The lyric-poems usually came quickly to me. They relate to my perceptions of life events and my desire to communicate these realities.

It is very intriguing for me to see how Sean has taken and adapted my lyric-poems adding his own insights, perceptions and perspectives and turned them into the meaningful and beautiful songs that make up Songs Of Experience.

Great mural of two of Nashville's finest artists painted on a building just south of Downtown Music City...Dolly Parton and Leon Russell.

‧ Dolly Rebecca Parton is an American singer-songwriter, actress, philanthropist, and businesswoman, known primarily for her decades-long career in country music. After achieving success as a songwriter for others, Parton made her album debut in 1967 with Hello, I'm Dolly, which led to a career spanning over fifty years. Parton has been described as a "country music legend" and has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling female artists of all time. She has received 11 Grammy Awards out of 50 nominations, including the Lifetime Achievement Award; ten Country Music Association Awards, including Entertainer of the Year and is one of only seven female artists to win the Country Music Association's Entertainer of the Year Award; five Academy of Country Music Awards, also including Entertainer of the Year; four People's Choice Awards; and three American Music Awards. She is also in a select group to have received at least one nomination from the Academy Awards, Grammy Awards, Tony Awards, and Emmy Awards. In 1999, Parton was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. In 2005, she received the National Medal of Arts and in 2022, she was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a nomination she had initially declined, but ultimately accepted and was inducted.

‧ Leon Russell was an American musician and songwriter who was involved with numerous bestselling records during his 60-year career that spanned multiple genres, including rock and roll, country, gospel, bluegrass, rhythm & blues, southern rock, blues rock, folk, surf, and the Tulsa Sound. As a pianist, Russell played in his early years on albums by the Beach Boys, Dick Dale, and Jan and Dean. On his first album, Leon Russell, in 1970, the musicians included Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison. One of his early fans, Elton John, said that Russell was a "mentor" and an "inspiration". They recorded their album The Union in 2010, earning them a Grammy nomination. Russell also produced and played in recording sessions for Bob Dylan, Frank Sinatra, Ike & Tina Turner, the Rolling Stones, and many other artists. And, he performed at The Concert for Bangladesh in 1971, along with Harrison, Dylan, and Clapton; for this he earned a Grammy Award. His recordings earned six gold records and he received two Grammy Awards from seven nominations. In 2011, he was inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
