The Somnath Temple (Gujarati: સોમનાથ મંદિર Hindi: सोमनाथ मन्दिर) located in Prabhas Patan near Veraval in Saurashtra on the western coast of Gujarat, India, is the first among the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva. It is an important pilgrimage and tourist spot for pilgrims and tourists. The temple is considered sacred due to the various legends connected to it. Somnath means "Lord of the Soma", an epithet of Shiva.

Somnath Temple is known as "the Shrine Eternal". This legendary temple has been destroyed and rebuilt several times by Islamic kings and Hindu kings respectively. Most recently it was rebuilt in November 1947, when Vallabhbhai Patel visited the area for the integration of Junagadh and mooted a plan for restoration.

The Gir Forest National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary (also known as Sasan-Gir) is a forest and wildlife sanctuary in Gujarat, India. Established in 1965, with a total area of 1412 km² (about 258 km² for the fully protected area (the national park) and (1153 km² for the Sanctuary), the park is located 43 km in the north-east from Somnath and 65 km to the south-east of Junagadh.

Though Gir forests are known more for the Asiatic lions, they have almost the same number of leopards - over 400 as per the 2011 census. The leopards are very shifty and nimble- much more adaptive than the rather indolent and majestic lions. That is why they are so difficult to sight. I was extremely lucky this day as I was able to sight 3 leopards. This leopard hardly remained hidden for a few seconds and I had to make the best out of the situation.

My blog on lions and leopards of Gir forest can be seen on www.jagadipsingh.blogspot.com

Somnath signifie « Le Seigneur de la Lune » et est un des noms de Shiva. Le temple de Somnāth est connu comme le « Sanctuaire éternel », car bien qu'il ait été détruit six fois, il a toujours été reconstruit.

In this shot, the lion cubs were feasting on a recently killed buffalo. They were momentarily distracted by the noise and looking at the noise source when I took this shot.

Just some of the thousands of fishing boats that crowd the harbour in Vereval, Gujarat. With the increase price of fuel, many of the vessels face an economic hardship and owners must surely consider putting to sea at all.
