Richmond, California's Iron Triangle neighborhood. Drug sales and drive-by shootings galore: scary part of a generally rough town. Old railroad right-of-way has been turned into a "greenway" and this part had a school garden and community gardens and berry patch, improvised benches, donated trees, that stuff. It looks better than it did when it was newly renovated. I think people like it.

This guy was collecting trash and heading for a dumpster a few blocks away. Not an employee or organized volunteer, just some rheumy-eyed guy with about five teeth, and he'd swiped a recycling can to work with. "Jus' tryna keep busy, jus' tryna do somethin' with my time."
