To our Transatlantic Cousins - I can't claim this is my own - it cropped up on a web thread discussing the ridiculous toilet debate going on in the States right now

I arranged their stuff ... tried to compromise ... now both are unhappy! I'd say that's fair ;D

I don't think you'll have a problem to find Mari and Faye's shelves, right?

It's been a good 15 years since I've owned or played with a Rubik's Cube. But then I saw The Pursuit of Happyness a few weeks ago. For those who haven't seen the movie, the Rubik's Cube is featured in the movie. Well anyways, I decided to pick one up and see if I could learn how to solve the damn thing. The most I've ever been able to get is one side and two rows of each of the adjacent sides.

Only problem..everyone had gotten the same friggin' idea. Everywhere I went, I was told the same thing, "Sorry, we're sold out. Check back next week." Of course, I could have gotten it online, but I wanted it right away. So I kept shopping around, calling different Targets and Walmarts. Well last Saturday, I FINALLY found one while Jane and I were shopping at a Target(not our usual Target).

Well for the past four days, I've been playing with this thing. It's been driving Jane nuts. She keeps telling me to put it down. :D Well as of tonight I have finally solved the damn thing. I got home from work today and spent about an hour on it...and voila! Only took me FOUR effing days. haha. But I don't care. It's the first time I've ever solved it....without popping the pieces out with a screwdriver. :D I've gotten really good at solving 90% of it, which I can do fairly quick. It's the other 10% that takes me forever. My goal right now is to be able to solve it in 20 minutes or less.

Now that I've solved it and taken my picture, I'm off to mess it up and start over again. :D

Goodbye Solve. We will miss your amazing art and your smiling face.

I saw a light ;)

Study becomes easy when you want to learn. When you are searching for solutions. Some people know me as a photographer, but I am also a nurse. As a nurse I am a detective. A health detective, able to see a reason for two seemingly diverse indicators such as trouble concentrating and consuming large quantities of ice. The foundation of arriving at solutions in healthcare lies in the study of pathophysiology. I enjoy my role in healthcare. I like finding root causes, solutions and bringing about improvements in people's lives.

So, if you hate studying, then change your way of thinking about it. Find a way to benefit yourself or others through your increasing knowledge. You won't be worth a damn at what you want to do if you don't understand what you're doing. Those indicators? Iron deficiency anemia. Quick and easy solution? Get rid of the copper and aluminum cookware and replace it with cast iron. If that isn't possible, increase the intake of beef, turkey and beans.

5010. This loco number has been confusing me for awhile now. Initially thought to be a 5000 class loco in Sydney, I noted to be hanging around Sydney alot and never leaving, which raised suspicions that the loco was not saying what it really was. Seeing that the train was today heading north, it was time to finally find out. Coming around the corner, 3MB7 thundered through with CLP13 leading CLP11, X54, and CLF7.

No telescope. 300mm lens on the Canon 1100D ISO 1600 About 16 x 29 second frames stacked with darks & bias. Only had a short window of time before the moon was up. Very hazy conditions but I think I see the hint of a tail going out to 8 on a clock.

...and a clever description too!

Model by David Mitchell, diagram on his website here:

Featured at the monthly folding challenge on the francophone origami forum.

Very good model. However, the folding sequence requiers a 12x12 grid and some 45° creases, the beauty of the result is obfuscated by that scaffolding.

So I devised the above express precrease method, hope it helps.

OK, you set your camera on macro, zoom in and shoot a sheet of laser-printed mylar Christmas paper from about 3 feet away. Without a DSLR, it is difficult to defocus a digital camera. This is my solution.

The first visit to the park didn’t go that well as a thin line of clouds blocked the sunrise, I returned a few days later this time with clear skies.

All that was requires was to line up the glass ball and the bridge choose the right aperture and wait for the sun to make an appearance

“Solve” refers to the breaking down of elements and “Coagula” refers to their coming together. In the process of transmuting base metal into gold or arriving at the Philosopher’s stone, this contained both literal and hidden meaning. Esoterically, “solve” referred to the dissolving of hardened positions, negative states of body and mind, thereby dissolving and vanishing negative energetic charge. “Coagula” referred to the coagulation of dispersed elements into an integrated whole, representing the new synthesis.

Solve et Coagula expresses transmutation from base to a finer state, the perpetual goal of spiritual growth and human evolution.

I tried imaging of the comet under bright moon light. Weather forecast was not so good. Clouds came frequently, and strong gust blew my PC, Dell XPS 13 off twice. Many frames were influenced, and I must have thrown them away.

The comet was drifting toward southeast in Camelopardalis. Tail was toward west. Coma was brighter in anti-tail direction toward east. The brighter area looked triangle-shaped as before. North is up, and east is to the left.

The text on the left in this image is Donald Trump’s statement after he was convicted of thirty-four felony counts for falsifying business records to cover up a payment of $130,000 in hush money to Stormy Daniels. Trump paid Daniels to hide his alleged affair with her from the public before the 2016 presidential election.

Americans have lost confidence in their government. We no longer trust our legislators and the Supreme Court to solve our country’s problems: income inequality, affordable health care, a woman's right to decide what’s best for her health, the economy, and climate change. Governance has become a series of battles. It’s no longer just political ideology. We are at war over cultural issues while our politicians ignore our basic needs.

The morals of our GOP legislators and their sycophants are just as important as their economic policy. How can we trust a party that Alex Patton, a Florida-based Republican consultant and pollster, has characterized as a party that “has become mean and driven by emotion on whom we dislike.”? “But,” he says, “that is the driving force in American politics right now.” That is the driving force of the GOP, not the Democrats. This is not an example of the equality of "bothsidesism."

In my essay, “It’s Time to Release Our Own Kraken!” I outlined the history of the Republican Party’s “below the belt” tactics. They continue to be underhanded to this day. But with the low level of civility in our present polarized country, many Republican legislators now in office have hit new ethical lows.

As a visual artist who has spent over a decade creating posters about the sorry state of American political discourse, this year I began a new series of portraits, “Faces of the Republican Party.” The men and women in this series deserve to be taken to task for their unwillingness to compromise, belief in conspiracy theories, and disdain for the LGBTQ+ community, women’s rights, and our children’s education. The purpose of our government is to solve our nation’s problems. It’s not a place for personal vendettas or manufactured cultural issues.

“Faces of the Republican Party” is not a partisan series of portraits. Merriam-Webster defines the word as “a firm adherent to a party, faction, cause, or person, especially one exhibiting blind, prejudiced, and unreasoning allegiance.” The people depicted in these images are the partisans. Instead, my series is a documentary and op-ed showcasing the facts in 2022. All of these people had a hand in trying to overthrow the government. These images are MAGA Republicans who put their blind allegiance to Donald Trump and their careers ahead of the needs of the American people.

The results of the 2022 midterm elections showed we are tired of autocratic and self-absorbed politicians. We would simply like our officials to do the jobs we elected them to do. Everyone deserves a piece of American Exceptionalism. As it stands, there is nothing exceptional about the tribalism these people promote.

Republicans are perfect examples of Patton’s “driving force.” This force is dirty, mean, misogynistic, selfish, and wastes our tax dollars. These people are just a small sampling of individuals responsible for the loss of credibility and faith in America’s institutions. And worse, they couldn’t care less.
