This set of photos were taken at Wake the Tiger in Bristol, England. This was my second visit, but first time with a camera. Later in 2026 they are opening a new project in London, so I look forward to visiting once it has opened.

This week's MAMMA challenge was to create a card with a jiggy bit (puzzle piece) on it. When I thought about puzzles I thought about Einstein.

The image is a picture I found on the web via google image search. His hair is some fun fur yarn that I crocheted with a tiny needle into a chain and glued to the card. I covered 3 puzzle pieces and added them for accents, one I wrote on his formula for relativity.

The background paper is scrapbook paper.

When Aunt Bessie and cousin Hester found out they were both married to the same guy, a magician named Burford Hemlock, he disappeared. I wonder what happened to him. Here Bessie and Hester pose with one of the props from the magic act. Burford used this magic box to make his assistant disappear right before your eyes!

I blather on about this elsewhere.

solve equations Solving Equations is the process of finding the values of the variables or unknown quantities that are satisfied by the condition defined in the equation. An equation is described as the combination of the variables and the values, and these equations are solved by using three different ways: with the help of Algebra, by graphs, by using the concept of equivalence.

This Swedish monitor was originally commissioned in 1875. It was armed with a single 24cm cannon located in a non-revolving turret. It is currently undergoing restoration, and is the only monitor-class warship still afloat.

To solve all the messy stuff at the base of my two main alcoves, I measured up, went to the wood yard, selected some 18mm thick MDF, got the man to cut it for me, then glued, screwed and assembled two lovely bespoke units. This one is nice as I recycled the glass doors from the previous crappy TV stand.

Sky Gate, by Isamu Noguchi, painted steel sculpture, 1977.

Mystery solved!

Looking from a distance, this sculpture carves out a rectangular space in the sky. And gazing up from the center, the sky appears within a triangle.

So what shadow shape is cast when the sun is precisely overhead on May 26th, at 12:28pm? I was there to find out, and now you know!

I read this magazine article a few years ago and I've always wanted to witness a Lāhainā Noon at this sculpture.

Ok, next big question: what famous person might you see at this sculpture on a Lāhainā Noon? Stay tuned!

I finally solved a Rubik's Cube. Hurrah!

(I promise it was scrambled beforehand.)

Just got these in the mail today from That's you!?

one for the book and one for the streets

Steps to solve problems:

•Identify the issues ( be clear about what the problem is )

•Understand everyone’s interests ( the best solution is the one that satisfies everyone’s interests )

•List the possible solutions ( this is the time to do some brainstorming .there may be lots of room for creativity )

•Evaluate the options (what are the pluses and minuses?)

•Select an option or options ( try to find the best option )

•Document the agreement ( writing it down will help you think through all the details and implications)

•Create opportunities to evaluate the agreements and their implementation.

“When I'm working on a problem, I never think about beauty. I think only how to solve the problem. But when I have finished, if the solution is not beautiful, I know it is wrong.”

Within refugee camps and host communities in Ethiopia’s Somali region UNICEF is supporting the education of Somali children. Through a partnership with NGO Right to Play UNICEF is linking host and refugee schools through sport and play by introducing sports clubs and tournaments and play-based learning training for teachers who deliver engaging activities to students. The activities enhance mind-body connections, improves social bonding and problem-solving abilities, and fosters community engagement and social activism. Host and refugee primary schools come together through joint activities to promote integration, which in turn provides a more conducive environment for self-reliance. UNICEF is also investing in the construction of a new and inclusive secondary school in Melkadida for host and refugee populations, that includes 16 classrooms, sex-segregated latrines, a library, science laboratory and teacher’s administrative facilities. Other activities supported by UNICEF in the region include the delivery of solar panels, television screens and learning materials for schools.” 25-March-2019 ©UNICEF Ethiopia/2019/Mulugeta Ayene

I was really happy to see this Solve sticker in Albuquerque.

Solve was a Chicago street artist named Brendan Scanlon who was murdered in 2008. He is missed.
