NATURE-BASED SOLUTIONS: HOW TO HARNESS OUR GREATEST ASSETS FOR CLIMATE RESILIENCE
The Nature Conservancy estimates nearly one-third of greenhouse gases can be captured through nature-based solutions like forestry management. The goal of reducing our carbon footprint through offsets is an ideal win-win for both nature and society, but as businesses move to implement these solutions, there is warranted skepticism about the integrity of the proposals and the legitimacy of the promises made by carbon-offset markets. There is also a need to balance the pursuit of carbon neutrality in the global economy with the role and needs of indigenous communities as stewards of the environment. By standardizing best practices for carbon offsets and empowering local and indigenous communities by including them in the decision-making that directly impacts their lives, we can strive for greater transparency and integrity in the carbon-offset market to benefit both forests and people.

Artful Solutions: Pathways from Homelessness is a continuing effort to develop programs focusing on the needs of homeless populations. Last fall, the Armory offered a pilot version of the program, Families in Transition, in partnership with Union Station Homeless Services and the Pasadena Police Department’s HOPE team. In a series of workshops, individuals and families from various shelters throughout Pasadena, developed their drawing and painting skills to create works which were exhibited and sold at the Armory. The proceeds went directly to the participants.

The real winners of online shopping are logistics companies. Transportation and logistics providers have grown with the shift to the online marketplace over recent years. This has largely been driven by the increased demands of consumers for faster and more transparent delivery options. The fact that everyday consumers can drop in at home via an IoT connected camera or thermostat translates to the expectation to track a package in transit the same way. In fact, IoT enabled smart logistics solutions are common throughout the modern supply chain.
Several transportation and logistics providers both large and small employ at least some degree of automation in their workflow. Not every logistics or supply chain workflow is the same and off-the-shelf IoT products may not fit well. The IoT remote monitoring platforms can be easily customized for specific needs such as monitoring the vehicle, tracking the packages, configuring and receiving geo-fence alerts, and automated alerts for cold chain logistics.
An IoT solution provider like Bridgera can help to navigate through the initial hurdles.
