An old window-seat, in the castle of Bollerup, in southern Sweden. The castle has a long, and rather complex, building history - the place was first mentioned in the middle of the 12th century. This building is not that old, but it is a product of merging a few buildings into one, and parts of may well date to the 14th century at least. But its heydays were definitely in the middle of the 15th century when it got its current looks, complete with a mixture of Late Gothic and early Renaissance elements, and some mural paintings.
But later on the castle fared worse, at one time it was burnt in a local uprising; it spent some time without a roof (which is really bad for buildings) and later on as a grain storage (which is probably how the building still managed to survive into times when the interest for historic buildings became more wide spread). It was restored to its current state in the 1940s - and now it is a school there, focusing on farming and horse management.
Stora Torget in Linköping, Östergötland, is bathed in sunshine beneath a clear blue sky. The image highlights four tall flagpoles, modern buses, and historic buildings. A large banner covers a building under renovation, hence the scaffolding in the title, adding a unique dynamic to this historic square.
This is just the opening chapter of my Swedish adventure. Stay tuned for more light, color, and quiet discoveries.

En stor banderoll täcker en byggnad under renovering, därav byggnadsställningarna i titeln, vilket ger ett unikt uttryck till detta historiska torg.
