The Midshore Regional Landfill Project agreement is part of an 80-year solution for solid waste management in four Maryland counties – Caroline, Kent, Queen Anne's and Talbot – and is the only regional partnership in the State of Maryland. Midshore II, a state-of-the-art landfill located near the town of Ridgely in Caroline County, is the second facility built as part of the Midshore Partnership; it began accepting waste in January 2011. It handles general mixed municipal, residential, commercial and non-hazardous industrial solid wastes. It also includes a homeowner drop-off where Midshore partner county citizens can drop off various recyclable materials. Sources of solid waste include private residences, commercial districts and municipalities and waste collectors are either commercial or public haulers.

Originally the town of Fort Bragg dumped all of their trash onto a beach and let the tides take the trash out to sea. heavier items, metal, & in this case, glass were left behind to be tumbled and polished.

I guess all of these trucks were in for some kind of repairs, seeing how they were sitting in the Fleet Maintenance parking lot.

Community support for the protection and management of the Mutsamudu River Basin is absolutely critical for the success of the demonstration project and a key component of the project is the establishment of a catchment management committee, comprising stakeholders with key water responsibilities and interests.
A water management plan has been developed following comprehensive consultations with stakeholders.
Bolstering these interventions is an inclusive public awareness campaign that is engaging the people of Mutsamudu in an effort to keep the river clean.
This campaign has quickly gained momentum, with students from the university joining and the army joining local residents in river clean-ups, tree planting excursions, workshops and seminars.
Excitingly, the project’s strong outreach component has attracted the attention of the Comorian diaspora – Comorans living in France, Mayotte and the USA who are now contributing their energy and enthusiasm to the community’s efforts to better manage the Mutsamudu catchment, improve water quality and combat disease.

In the 1980s, the Provincial government pivoted towards implementing two-stream solid waste management within municipal waste management programs. In 1988, the Region worked with local municipalities towards implementing a Blue Box recycling program, with the Region working as part of the GTA's Solid Waste Management Committee. This waste diversion program was successful enough for the Region to expand the range of accepted types of recyclables. By 2019, 54,494 tonnes of Blue Box recycling was diverted from landfills.
York Regional Council adopted the three-stream waste management system in 2001. This system separates household organic waste, Blue Box recyclable material and residual waste. The objective of the three-stream system is to divert more waste from landfills. It was launched in September 2004, through a collection of source separated organics by then Town of Markham within a pilot area. The three-stream system included the addition of new types of recyclable materials to the Blue Box program. The new materials were added in the pilot area within then Town of Markham and were expanded Region-wide on July 4, 2005 to correspond with the opening of the Region's new Waste Management Centre in the Town of East Gwillimbury. Municipalities in York Region began collecting organic waste, with the program fully implemented in 2008. The Region was able to divert 112,403 tonnes of green bin organics from landfills in 2020.
