The water looks almost solid in this photo, like it's a model and the boat is just sitting on top of it. I thought it was kind of cool. Taken from Santorini, with the volcano in the distance.

The beach is a combination of sand and shingle.
The Promenade is of a solid concrete construction, and provides ample walking area for those not wishing to stroll on the beach itself; it is also a huge sea defence. During the devastating tides in 1953, the inside of the Pier’s amusement arcade was reduced to a shambles. Waves of shingle poured in, destroying the bar and pushing over the games machines like matchsticks. The good news was that the concrete sea wall built in front of the town since the Second World War and topped by the promenade all the way to Gun Hill protected the town itself from the sea.
Southwold beach housed high wheeled bathing machines in the early 1900's owned by Sam May one of the many famed characters of the town, and even today it is well known for its colourful array of beach huts. Southwold beach is a delight to visit not only providing all the tranquillity of a traditional seaside resort, but is only a short distance from the town centre, walks or harbour area.
In recent years, improvements have been made to the north beach, with a series of rock groynes, and millions of tonnes of sand. This enables this part of the beach to be accessed at both low and high tide.
The shore is famous for its rows of brightly coloured and highly sought after beach huts. These days they sell for the price of a small flat!

Huile sur toile, 59 x 72 cm, 1876-1878, Kunsthalle, Hambourg.
Au centre du tableau, cette vue montre une grue flottante s'élèvant au-dessus des cinq arches du Pont National dans le vaste ciel. L'œuvre présente un intérêt particulier car Cézanne l'a réalisée comme une copie du tableau impressionniste de son ami Armand Guillaumin, également conservé à la Hamburger Kunsthalle. Une comparaison illustre comment Cézanne commença vers 1875 à développer un style de peinture systématique qui différait sensiblement de celui des impressionnistes.
Il a remplacé leur travail au pinceau libre et spontané par une application de peinture contrôlée et clairement ordonnée. Les formations nuageuses en particulier montrent comment il a condensé la surface de l'image à l'aide de coups de pinceau diagonaux parallèles et contré la volatilité de l'atmosphère avec une structure picturale solide. En s'intéressant aux lois inhérentes à la composition, Cézanne soulève des questions qui seront d'une grande importance pour l'art du XXe siècle (cf. Daniel Koep, Kunsthalle).
