The computer model is 10 years old. I've had one for the last nine years -- and when the screen cable breaks and shorts out, as they do, I just buy another on eBay and swap the removable CF card. Instant on, and a complete sofware suite that reads and saves MS Office compatible files. I'd like something newer, but nobody has tempted me yet. Steve Jobs could have with the iPhone, but he didn't, because he left out something important . . . This rant continues on my blog. The new version adds a "feature" that blocks you from sharing your connection over WiFi (so friends with laptops, iPods, iPhones, etc could piggyback your connection).

The moment you start sharing your connection from the USB evdo card to your wifi card and a client connects, you get dumped offline. If you try to reconnect your EVDO card, you get this message. This worked two days ago (and for the previous year I've had it) before I agreed to a sofware update.

I got the update notification this week -- if you get the notification and ever share your connection, don't update your connection software.
