This picture is #39 in the 100 Strangers Project - Round 2
Meet Meryam.
I was in Washington DC recently at the Indian embassy for some visa related work - and after finishing up walked around to grab a quick lunch before heading back to the garage. By habit I had my camera in my bag and eyes alert for any inspiring stranger. And boy was I glad for that. A few minutes into my walk and I glanced across the street and saw this dapper looking couple in a quiet involved conversation over a outdoor lunch. The lady, who I learned was Meryam was someone I noticed first and knew immediately that I had to make a request. Its always a little awkward to intrude on a couple but I guess I didn't want to miss this opportunity. As I excused myself and made my introduction and answered a few questions (including similarity of the project to Humans of New York) followed by a friendly conversation, I was really elated when I received a positive response. I was pretty candid that Meryam's amazing eyes that was a major reason for the request. Of course the lady's sharp features with the reddish hair, high cheek bones, her skin tone and her elegant smart dressing added to the appeal and just made her standout as a great subject. A dazzling smile with a very friendly yet super sharp confident personality - this lady could have been a model. As she faced the camera with effortless ease I had to ask her if she had done this before and as I suspected this was not altogether new to her. She also mentioned that she has been told before that she resembles a Indian actress which didn't really surprise me either.
Meryam (which translates to Mary) is Moroccan and works at an Embassy. Additionally she also is a stylist which she pursues in addition to her work. She loves "fashion" and that just seemed to explain her overall stylish appearance. Her hobbies include travelling - Poland was her favorite destination. When I asked her what she considered her biggest strength - pat came the reply "ability to grab opportunities. Anything is possible in this country". Very well said and indeed a wonderful trait.
Her friend Bishr (also referred to himself as "Alex") works with software development for Infosys, a company I was familiar with based on my Indian roots.. Honestly he had a fabulous personality that would make him potential subject himself - and they undoubtedly they made a handsome couple. But since my initial request was to Meryam I didn't want to change the primary "subject". However, he patiently waited for us to click the pics, and we even ended up with a few "couple" pictures. Alex playfully teased me that anyways I was really interested in pictures of Meryam. That's quite true Alex but am sure you will be the first to understand and appreciate that choice.
Thanks a lot Meryam (and Alex) for participating in the project and letting me take up some of your time. I hope you liked the pictures. Wishing you all the very best for a wonderful future.

The FEIT (Building 11) is part of the new constructions that have revitalised the western gateway to Sydney’s CBD.
It is a massive investment in the future of education & research, with the ability to accommodate up to 5,000 students & staff.
The 12 level, 44,000 sq. metre building is cloaked in a shimmering aluminium veil.
The angled semi-transparent facade that envelops the building is made up of aluminium sheets containing binary code patterns.
At night the facade is lit by a myriad of green LED’s providing an impressive light display.
A crevasse-like horizontal and vertical atrium runs through the entire building, providing natural light and pedestrian access via bridge links.
An Escher-like series of stairways connect the two sides of the building.
Unusually, the building has no formal ceilings and has a raised floor system to contain all the building services, including air conditioning.
This gives the building design an industrial element with exposed concrete.
A tree-lined arcade provides a ‘green’ link between Building 11 & Building 10, and features a cafe.
FEIT is a ‘living lab’ with sensors placed throughout its structure to provide ‘realtime’ data on it’s performance including energy production & consumption, and rainwater collection.
The building features nine classrooms, two large tiered theatres, and a 3D Data Arena.
State of the art labs provide high-tech learning & research facilities in aerodynamics, software development, and dynamics & mechanics.
FEIT features a sustainable design, with roof-mounted wind turbines, and solar panels to generate electricity for heating & cooling.
The facade of the building provides natural lighting that reduces energy costs by up to 15%.
The provision of numerous stairways encourages less usage of lifts.

Apache Cordova (previously known as Phonegap) has emerged as one of the most important hybrid (native-html/javascript) cross platform mobile application development environment. The goal of this meetup is to present the basic architecture of Cordova/Phonegap in iOS and demonstrate its capabilities by creating a simple application in HTML/Javascript and then deploy it to a mobile device as a native application.
