La catedral de Milán (en italiano, Duomo di Milano) es una catedral gótica emplazada en la ciudad homónima. Es la sede episcopal de la Archidiócesis de Milán. Es una de las iglesias de culto católico más grandes del mundo, tiene 157 metros de largo pudiendo albergar hasta 40 000 personas en su interior. Las ventanas del coro tienen la reputación de ser las mayores que se conocen.
La construcción fue iniciada en 1386 y terminada en 1965. El plano de la ciudad de Milán, con sus calles que salen en forma de radio de la catedral de Milán o circundándolo, revela que este ya constituía en la Antigüedad el centro de la ciudad, denominada Mediolanum por los romanos. La Basílica de San Ambrosio fue construida en este sitio a comienzos del siglo v, siéndole agregada en 836 otra basílica próxima. Cuando un incendio en 1075 dañó ambos edificios, éstos fueron reemplazados por el Duomo.

Questa
non è una fiaba
per bambini,
è una storia vera,
da matti.
Il diciotto agosto
dell'ottantadue,
appena uscito dall'ospedale
mi sono chiuso in camera,
ho messo due armadi
ed un comodino
davanti alla porta.
Poi mi sono disteso sul letto,
come un astronauta.
Fuori dalla porta
mi chiamavano tutti:
"Esci! Esci!".
"No, no! Sono in volo
nella nave spaziale,
non disturbatemi,
voi siete di un altro mondo".
E passavano le ore...
Intanto incrociavo
stelle e galassie
ed uccelli strani.
Lo specchio faceva da oblò
ed il soffitto da firmamento.
E da fuori,
molto preoccupati:
"Esci! Esci!
Oh, Dio, è matto!"
Io continuavo a volare,
ancora duemila anni-luce
e sarei arrivato sul sole.
Le ombre sui muri
ed i rumori delle macchine
facevano il rumore del motore
della nave spaziale.
E son passati due giorni...
"Esci! Esci!
Non mangi?
Oh, Dio, è matto!
Buttiamo giù la porta!"
Ma la porta resisteva.
Ed io in alto,
più in alto!
E fuori tutto un rumore:

I cant tell you how much i LOVE these chairs. Yes, they are eames knock offs. I dont care. I got them on overstock.com for $300 total. They far exceeded my expectations. The table was a piece of butcher block from Ikea, along with some stainless steel legs from their "make your own" desk section. At first we were going to build our own faux banquet. With a bench on one side, but after figuring out the measurements we realized with the legs we bought it was going to be a really tight fit.
This table is still small as is the space, but its an extra spot to put to sit, gather with friends. Everyone knows the kitchen is always where people end up.

LOTA Y SU PARQUE
Según la tradición, el origen del vocablo Lota sería, en lengua vernácula, "louta" que significaría "pequeño lugar" o "caserío insignificante", que primero estuvo ubicado en las playas riberanas de la caleta de Colcura que fue denominada Andalién. El traslado a su actual sitio se efectuó en tiempos del gobernador Porter Casanate, quien, por medidas de seguridad militar, decidió instalar el fuerte un poco más al norte de su ubicación inicial, en una ladera al sur de la actual ciudad, punto aún designado como "asiento del viejo fuerte".
La ciudad fue fundada en septiembre de 1662 por Angel Peredo quien, el 15 de octubre de ese año, en una parte de su carta al rey de España, le escribía: "Esta nueva población a que se ha dado el nombre de Santa Maria de Guadalupe, es de tan relevantes cualidades que parece se ruzo y se formó de propósito para el intento". Sólo años después perdió el nombre que le dio Peredo y se siguió denominando Lota hasta nuestros días. Respecto al puerto de Coronel, su designación proviene del coronel español Miguel Gómez de Silva, quien residíó alli durante los primeros años de la Conquista y cuyo escudo en piedra labrada, de 1598, fue transferido hace muchos años al Museo de Concepción.
Desde el punto de vista industrial, Lota adquirió su prestigio como ciudad minera desde 1852 por los trabajos allí iniciados por el pionero del carbón chileno, Matías Cousiño, durante el gobierno de Manuel Montt. Como esta crónica no está dedicada a destacar las labores mineras, iniciadas hace más de un siglo, nos referiremos a Lota como sitio de turismo y lugar de elección donde los penquistas del siglo pasado y de los primeros años del presente solian pasar su lu:na de miel en el prestigiado y hoy desaparecido Hotel Comercio. Este era de propiedad del ciudadano belga Carlos Bivort, quien, en 1910, trasladó su residencia a Concepción donde tuvo el recordado Casino Bivort, en Barros Arana entre Aníbal Pinto y Colo Colo, famoso por su buena mesa y la distinguida atención en su bar y comedores.
Los jóvenes habrán de preguntarse qué atractivos podía tener Lota para que las parejas decidieran pasar allí su luna de miel... Trataremos de dar respuesta a esta interrogante díciendo, en primer lugar, que desde 1888, una vez terminado el puente ferroviario del Biobío, el ferrocarril a Curanilahue llegaba sólo hasta Lota. Años después se completó su recorrido. Pero como se habrá de comprender no era éste el motivo del viaje mencionado a la ciudad minera, sino las atenciones y el destacado servicio que prestaba el Hotel Comercio que, sin ser un establecimiento elegante y lujoso, estaba dotado de las comodidades que sus propietarios prodigaban a su clientela. Además del hotel, lo que atraía a las parejas a Lota era el famoso parque que, aun hoy día, constituye un maravilloso sitio de atracción por sus bellezas naturales y la vista que allí se goza, como también por los hermosos y bien delineados jardines con flores de díversos tipos, y sus innumerables obras de arte.
Algunas palabras acerca del parque. En 1862, desde que Luis Cousiño Squella tomó la dirección de la mina -al fallecimiento de su padre, don Matías-, se dedicó a delinear y a construir el parque, que alcanzó su época de oro en 1898, con la colaboración, entusiasmo y gusto artístico de su esposa Isidora Goyenechea. A instancias de este matrimonio, el parque fue diseñado y plantado en 1870 por el técnico británico Mr. Bartlet. Años después, en 1881, se hizo cargo de estas labores el jardínero irlandés Mr. O'Reilly, a quien le tocó hacerse cargo de la plantación de los hermosos y variados árboles que impresionaban al turista.
Pero no sólo plantas, flores y árboles pueblan las catorce hectáreas del parque sino también hermosas y delicadas obras de arte. Entre éstas podemos recordar a Diana la Cazadora, Venus Saliendo del Baño, del francés Allegrain; Caupolicán, de Nicanor Plaza; Neptuno y Amphytrite, Hipómenes y Atlanta, el Niño de la Espina, el Niño del Cordero, el Fauno y su Flauta, y tantas más, todas de gran valor y belleza. Además, existe allí un faro, el puente colgante Isidora -que fue destruido en 1891 al pasar corriendo por él un grupo demasiado numeroso de soldados-los quioscos árabe y chino, un observatorio meteorológico, la gruta de los espejos y la hermosa y señorial escultura sepulcral de Carlos Cousiño.
Por esta somera y rápida descripción del parque se podrá comprender la razón por la cual los viejos penquistas elegían este sitio de tradicional hermosura y de paradisíaca tranquilidad para los días inolvidables de la luna de miel. Cada vez que visitamos el parque le encontramos un nuevo encanto y nos duele que sean tan pocos los penquistas que llegan hasta él para aprovechar las horas libres de los dias sábados y domingos y deleitarse ante la naturaleza y la hermosura del sitio.
Alli hubo, además, una hermosa residencia, pero sus propietarios decidieron hacerla demoler para construir en su lugar un verdadero palacio. Para ello, en 1885, contrataron al distinguido arquitecto Eduardo Fehrmann, quien también construyó nuestro re-cordado Teatro Concepción, el Teatro Victoria de Val paraíso, la antigua Casa Gleisner,la hermosa residencia del Dr. Aichel, que después fuera el Club Alemán; la mansión de la Quinta Sofía y el Castillo Sofita en Pedro de Valdivia. Diremos, además, que Fehrmann fue el suegro del presidente Juan Esteban Montero.
Dicho profesional estuvo a cargo de los trabajos hasta 1888, fecha en que terminó su contrato debido a que el estilo que empleó para las cuatro fachadas del palacio no satisfizo el gusto de sus propietarios. De modo que Luis Cousiño hizo venír desde París al destacado arquitecto francés Abel Guérineau quien, en poco más de dos años, dio término a la obra, modificando los planos de las fachadas y ocupándose de adornar el interior con hermosos y artísticos artesonados de madera, decorados con gusto y primor. A pesar de haberle dado una feliz solución al problema, éste se lamentaba de no haber ejecutado la obra desde el principio.
De Francia se trajeron hermosas chimeneas en madera tallada por hábiles artesanos, una de las cuales, así como uno de los primorosos zócalos, fueron obsequiados por la Compañía Minera al Club Concepción luego del sismo de 1960 que destruyó el palacio. Todo el mobiliario fue, también, traído de París, pero lamentablemente doña Isidora no pudo gozar de su residencia, ya que al terminarse ésta en 1898 ella falleció en Europa, y el palacio fue destinado a las oficinas de la empresa hasta su destrucción en 1960. Recuerdo una curiosa anécdota de principios de siglo ocurrida en Lota. En 1914, antes de la apertura del Canal de Panamá, era costumbre que las compañías teatrales llegaran a nuestro país por el Estrecho de Magallanes, desembarcando en Coronel, entonces gran puerto comercial. De ahí que los penquistas gozaran del privilegio de escuchar las óperas antes que los santiaguinos, en el Teatro Concepción. Durante una de esas temporadas, el tenor de una compañía italiana que actuaba en nuestra ciudad -personaje de carácter difícil y neurótico-, una tarde en que tenía el papel principal decidió no cantar y, sin decir "agua va", tomó el tren y se dirigió a Lota; por lo que, lógicamente, hubo que suspender la función de la noche, con las consiguientes molestias para el administrador del teatro y el público que se había abonado al espectáculo.
Al dia siguiente se supo en nuestra ciudad que Aramburu -así se llamaba el artista en plena noche y desde una de las ventanas de su habitación en el Hotel Comercio, hizo las delicias de quienes tuvieron la suerte de escucharlo en la romanza de Rotoli "La Mia Bandieira". Esa noche, el distinguido vecino penquiSta José del Carmen Campos y su esposa tuvieron el placer de oírlo, pues se encontraban en luna de miel en dicha ciudad.

The bed is the famous IKEA storage bed hacked to be on wheels ( and now I can store folding chairs below it), the boxes on the wall are IKEA PS, I have some color diodes on the ceiling behind the sofit, the back wall is silver metallic paint, and the surround is high gloss grey. The result is a bed area that scans modern, designed, in place, useful and not messy and sleepy by both day and night.
And it is totally cozy at night.
This playhouse and platform is built over an existing water feature. The front of the playhouse has a central stable door with heart shape cut out and a opening window either side of it. The right hand side has a non opening diamond shape window in the apex and an opening rectangular window lower down. Internally it is lined with plywood and has a foldaway table and toy box bench fitted. The roof has felt shingles on it and then to finish it off with a scalloped ridge, facia and sofit board. The playhouse is sited on a raised platform which is accessed by a staircase, it is set slightly out of the corner to give access all around. The platform is protected with balustrade rails all around and there is a slide coming from the platform.

We debated for a while about getting a new stove. Our previous stove was a drop in model.
We weren't planning on getting a new stove but once we started making counter top plans we realized that small piece of counter that was behind our drop in stove was going to cost us around 300 bucks. We ended up getting a great deal on a discontinued model at Lowes and saved ourselves that square footage on the counter.

The cabinet sofit had fallen about 2 inches at the end due to a previous roof leak damaging the unit's component materials. This was a safety issue with the cabinet relying on the sofit to support it's weight and it's cargo. Removal of the spoiled components and the addition of turnbuckles tied directly into the roof truss bottom cords was required to correct the situation. Then refinishing of the dry wall to sofit seams, texture and repainting.
Probably should have cleaned the crap of the fridge for the pictures, but oh well - it's real life.
This house had recently been purchased and flipped. They did an incredibly crappy job installing the tile, counters, pretty much everything! In fact the only thing that was done well was the hardwood floors - because they had to contract that out. The space looks a bit bigger in the before because theres no fridge of cabinets on the left side. But really we added a lot more storage. More cabinets on the right side of the kitchen bottom and top, as well as moving the sink over a few inches and installing a lazy susan corner unit along with a skinny cabinet next to the stove.
I was a little obsessed with having lots of light! We bought lights at Home Depot and Ikea and decided we'd try them both. Ikea won out, as the lights were a lot brighter plus the replacement bulbs are more affordable from Ikea. Every single cupboard has a light under it. My husband & dad put them on a dimmer so they can be adjusted.
We purchased this piece of butcher block from Ikea - and are going to cut it down - about where that piece of trim molding is. On the left side we're going to build some sort of bench/cabinet and then use these new chairs on the right. Not sure what color we'll stain/paint the butcher block. I like the contrast of the warm wood, black counters & stainless steel table legs and appliances.
We're all stocked up for sehri.

There's more stuff, of course, but I didn't have the patience to hunt it all out. Sofit soya milk (suitable for vegans) and Zwan turkey luncheon meat are life savers, and highly recommended.
I bought this ceramic container right when we started the demo. I just pictured it looking clean next to the subway tile backsplash we had planned. I didn't realize it at the time, but I love how the crown ties into the "keep calm & carry on" poster.
I'm thrilled how the new stove makes everything suddenly look nicer. I never really thought of our microwave as being all that slick.. well with the matchin stove they suddenly seem so put together. Its only been a few days and I cannot WAIT for this to be over. I almost killed myself tripping over some cabinet packaging this morning.

My dad texturing our kitchen walls, and the new can lights hanging out of the ceiling. We have to wait until we texture the ceiling before we can pop them in. SOoo much more light. I must say, i did a kick ass taping job on the cupboards....
I bought these Orla Kiely canisters from Target when i was thinking we were going to do more of a green/orange color scheme. Eventually the orange just was too warm with all the wood in the room. I still love them and they sit in the corner with my bird salt & pepper shakers which i also bought before we even started demoing the kitchen with a vision of these up against the white tiles.

Parece que fue ayer cuando vivíamos en el departamento, cuando compartíamos pieza y te preguntaba: "¿Carol, para que lado estas durmiendo....para la pizarra o para la muralla?" ó cuando por primera vez dormi una siesta y fue apoyada en tus piernas en la cama de abajo del camarote mientras me hacías cariño en el pelo ó cuando me daba miedo dormir en la pieza sola y te extrañaba por las noches... y ahora...después de tantas cosas y anecdotas que vivímos juntas, ya eres toda una mujer, una mujer que ya es mamá, que tiene en su vientre a una hermosa Sofía que está pronto a nacer...
En qué momento crecimos? En que momento dejamos de ser pequeñas? Hoy te veo y veo a la misma Carol, a mi misma Col de hace unos años atrás, sólo que ahora te veo más madura y con una vida totalmente distinta a la que alguna vez creí verte...y sinceramente no sé en qué momento te fuiste de casa....es tan extraño, pero tengo la sensación de que nunca me di cuenta de todo eso, era tan raro no verte en la casa, de no estar contigo y con la Pau, que siento que no las disfrute como debía, pero....ahora es distinto, ambas estan construyendo la vida que siempre quisieron, la vida que querían desde pequeñas y me siento totalmente afortunada de ser parte de este proceso y es que ustedes dos son mujeres muy fuertes, valientes y sinceras....claramente me siento orgullosa de ser su hermana menor...de ser la "Jota" de la casa.
Te quiero muchisimo mi Col y quiero más de lo que imaginas a mi pequeñita y tan anhelada Sofita...cuenta en todo momento conmigo, con esta tía "chillona" y alaraca con los cariños...porque no habrá algún momento en que sea capaz de decirte "no" conrespecto a algo de la niña...
Queda tan poquito para que la Sofía llegue a este mundo....menos de un mes....en menos de un mes podre tenerla en mis brazos y ver su carita, en menos de un mes veré como cambia la vida de muchas personas, la vida de sus papás, de sus abuelos y sus tíos...en ese momento cambiará la vida como la conocía.
