Sofia is the capital and largest city of Bulgaria. It is situated in the centre of the Balkan peninsula, and midway between the Black Sea and the Adriatic Sea.

Today, Sofia is a dynamic Eastern European capital, distinguished by its unique combination of European and Communist-style architecture as well as onion-domed churches and Ottoman mosques. Sofia is one of the few European capitals with beautiful scenery and a developed ski-resort close to the city. It is home to many of Bulgaria's finest museums, galleries, restaurants and clubs.
