SOFIA is short for Stratospheric Observatory For Infrared Astronomy... a telescope that is flown inside a Boeing 747
this is sparkling wine from francis ford coppola's winery. obviously, this is named after his daughter, one of my favorite new director's. it came in this pretty pink clear paper.
"revolutionary, reactionary, poetic, sparkling, ebullient, effervescent, fragrant, cold, cool, coming of age, bestowing of presence, petulant"

When I was in Sofia in 2007 the metro was very small in length and stops but yet another wonderfully clean European metro unlike London.

Red Flat Sofia is a one bedroom apartment in central Sofia which has been furnished as it would have been for a professional couple and their son in the mid 1980s communist era Bulgaria. Whilst small, the tour takes about 90 minutes as an audio guide tells stories about their everyday life through objects and photographs displayed in the property. Some stories tell of experiences wildly different to life in the West at that time but there are more similarities than differences and plenty of objects and stories that trigger nostalgic thoughts about growing up in the UK in the 70s and 80s. www.redflatsofia.com

Sofia was waiting for a bus when I approached her, and as well as a smile she giggled when I asked her for a photograph. Since starting this project I have realised that the little giggle is a good sign, and she agreed even before I had fully explained the project although the speed of her agreeing was possibly determined by the fact that she could see her bus arriving. I took a couple of shots and handed her a card and then she was off to catch her bus. I selected the colour shot as my main shot because it was her make-up that made me notice her in the first place but I quite like the b/w conversion.
