From Columbus Circle , towering into heaven

Happy New Year folks! Hope you have a fun and adventure filled 2015. I've been off flickr for some time, but thank you for your visits and comments ... hope to see your wonderful photos soon.

This shot is from my trip to India a year ago, am including the color version in the comments.

As they catch the late afternoon light, the Wings seem to soar on the wind and blowing sand that cut through the Bisti Badlands of New Mexico.

While not the most beautiful of birds, they sure can soar beautifully!

A float plane was seen approaching YVR, I took the photo when it was flying across the wide Fraser River esturary.

The female Harrier has such great coloring!

Thanks for looking...

Learning to fly ..... Tom Petty

Well I started out down a dirty road

Started out all alone

And the sun went down as I crossed the hill

And the town lit up, the world got still

I'm learning to fly, but I ain't got wings

Coming down is the hardest thing

Well the good ol' days may not return

And the rocks might melt and the sea may burn

I'm learning to fly, but I ain't got wings

Coming down is the hardest thing

Well some say life will beat you down

Break your heart, steal your crown

So I've started out, for God knows where

I guess I'll know when I get there

I'm learning to fly, around the clouds,

But what goes up must come down

I'm learning to fly, but I ain't got wings

Coming down is the hardest thing

The clouds were getting prettier by the minute.

Happy Sunday!

On one of our recent trips to this rookery we saw the male egret flying in with sticks. He would land in the tree, right next to his mate, and pass it on from beak to beak. It must take an awfully long time to painstakingly search for nest material stick by stick. After observing this ritual we gained a renewed respect for this majestic bird. We keep going back in hopes of seeing the new hatchlings.

The male Great Egret selects a nesting site at the top of a tree. He builds a nest of sticks before he displays to select a mate. It is an amazing sight to see an egret carry the sticks needed for his nest! The nest is built in a communal “rookery” tree. It is not unusual to see other water birds nesting in the same tree. The nest is up to 3 feet across and 1 foot deep. It is lined with pliable plant material that dries to form a cup structure. They don’t typically reuse nests from year to year.

I would ask, "do you like the beach?"

"you'll be alright" you'd say to me & we would both laugh.

You couldn't remember if you liked dogs or cats, winter or summer. but, we always found something to say that would make us laugh together.

You had beautiful, gentle blue eyes. "You must have been quite a ladies man" I'd say...you'd just look at me & softly smile.

Surely I'll remember our time together and your special loving smile & wonderful laugh, for a very long time.

Be at peace...soar & be free, Bill.

I do miss you already.

I like photographing the moon, hawks, and stars so why not put them all together in a Photoshop composite with some extra finishing in Luminar 4? We have had some clear skies in a Canadian west coast winter so ideal for moon photography. Recently both Mars and the bluish Uranus were visible close in alignment to the moon.
