I've been wanting to make cream soap for quite awhile and finally bit the bullet last night. Whipped it this morning and will have to see how it turns out as it cures (or rots, to use the cream soap term).

Built by Bryan Blundell, a sea captain, as a residential charity school, Liverpool Blue Coat School. Construction began in 1716 and the building, though still incomplete, soon opened as a school in 1718. The school moved to a new site in Wavertree in 1906.
The building was threatened with demolition but it was saved by the soapmaker William Lever and Charles Reilly, the head of the Liverpool School of Architecture. This school used part of the building and in 1907 the Sandon Studios Society, an arts club, occupied other parts. The School of Architecture moved out in 1925 and a charitable trust, the Bluecoat Society of Arts, was set up to run the building.
The Bluecoat Display Centre, a contemporary craft gallery, opened in the rear courtyard in 1959.
The centre now organises events, exhibitions and concerts.

Aix en Provence is noted for its wonderful soaps.
In the 6th century French craftsmen combined locally-pressed olive oils with ashes from Mediterranean plants to make the first sopas...today, dedicated soapmakers in the South of France follow techniques perfected by thier ancestors to continue this proud tradition.
I love Provence especially Aix where sreets and squares are crammed with stalls piled with everything from plump Provencal produce to second-hand books, brightly coloured soaps to tempting table linens. The smell of fresh herbs mingles with the perfume of flowers, the pungent aroma of local cheeses with the rich scent of leather.
You will see a wide variety of local products at the open air market and the section that features Aix en Provence's soaps is difficult to pass up. You will find soaps here that are found no where else on Earth.
I made some lip balm the other day and it turned out great. It's nice and hard, yet very moisturizing and a little goes a long way through the day.
1/2 Tbs. Beeswax
1/2 Tbs. Shea Butter
1/2 Tbs. Avocado Butter
1 tsp. Sweet Almond Oil
I took a coffee cup and submursed it in a crock pot of water on high. Then I added the beeswax and the butters and let it sit. Forever. Then when eternity had come to an end the beeswax finally had started melting and I added the sweet almond oil and stirred like a mad woman to get it to all be one consistency.
Done and ready for my lips! I poured into my container and it set up very fast.
A regular vendor at the Market Square Farmers' Market, Paper Box Soap provides locally made soaps and oils.

130g/4.5 oz
This is a soap with a beautiful and detailed design, in a rich cream colour. Lavish helpings of shea and avocado butter are wonderful for the skin, and I have also added white clay, to help remove impurities while cleansing.
The fragrance I have used is a really delicious warm vanilla.
The ingredients in this luxuriant soap are as follows:
*glycerin, aqua, sodium stearate, sodium oleate, sorbitol, sodium laurate, sodium myristate, stearic acid, lauric acid, pentasodium pentetate, tetrasodium etidronate,titanium dioxide, shea butter, avocado butter, clay, mica, parfum*
Known as "PROCTOR and Gamble" for many, they are a giant conglomerate that produces "consumer goods", and have weaseled their way into our homes with the promise of a "spic and span" culture.
The original P&G was created when William PROCTOR, a candle maker, and soapmaker James Gamble, got together and decided to become industrialists; "Proctor & Gamble" was born!
Their name in the papers is everywhere and usually dogged by scandal. They managed to turn industrial waste into household consumer goods, their phosphates choke rivers, they've sponsored and created "daytime television", hence soap operas, they've been slapped on the wrists for industrial espionage multiple times... it goes on and on.
I have never seen a company have to dodge so many accusations of Satanism too! "Throughout the past EIGHT (!) years the corporate giant has tried to set the record straight, only to see rumor of Satanism pop-up and spread all over again." It goes on to say "the company will sue rumor spreaders" and later P&G dragged a bunch of people through the courts to quell those tales!
Lastly, I found a death notice for William PROCTOR and was surprised to find out he commited SUICIDE. Apparently, he took his own life, by shooting himself in the head while his companions enjoyed polite conversation on the porch. I've never heard that mentioned before, but it certainly ads to the sordid history of P&G!

When fall finally decides to makes it's presence known, by drastically lowering the ambient temperatures, and opening up the skies, things around these parts can for lack of better explanation...Get a little boring. When there is nothing to wash except the bay walls, and bathroom tiles, the hours can really drag on. I suppose its times like these that I afford myself a little mind wondering, and even a little camera tinkering on the clock. What else am I going to do...
For number 6 of 20 bold and righteous tunes I chose the Clutch classic "The Soapmakers", because while there might not be a whole hell of a lot to do around here today, sooner or later those clouds are going to part company with this little valley, and then warm or not...We're gonna be workin, workin.

WARNOCK.—On April 6, 1944, at her residence, 19, Sherwood Avenue, Grey Lynn, Agnes, dearly loved wife of Joseph Warnock, and sister of Mrs. Lowry. A service will be held at the above address at 1.15 p.m. on Saturday, the funeral then leaving for Waikumete Cemetery.
