A snowy egret stabbed a fish from pond 5 a the Gilbert Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch. Yum! Breakfast is served!
Snowy Egret
The Snowy Egret (Egretta thula) is a small white heron. It is the American counterpart to the very similar Old World little egret, which has established a foothold in the Bahamas. At one time, the beautiful plumes of the snowy egret were in great demand by market hunters as decorations for women's hats. This reduced the population of the species to dangerously low levels. Now protected in the United States by law, under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, this bird's population has rebounded.

Snowy Egrets employ several different fishing methodologies, but this one is the most entertaining to me. They'll fly just over the surface of the water, dragging their feet in the water as they fly. I presume this both slows them down and riles up little fish. When they spot a fish, they stab their heads down into the water while maintaining flight. If they're successful, they'll give the fish a little toss and down the throat it goes (this shot). If fish are plentiful, they can down several small fish on a single pass across the pond. (hit L to go large)

So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

Fattening up during mating season, this little Snowy was catching some big fish! Unfortunately it went behind some curly duck to eat away from prying eyes. White birds a challenge to photograph!

Egretta thula (Snowy egret / Garcita blanca)
The snowy egret (Egretta thula) is a small white heron. It is the American counterpart to the very similar Old World little egret. At one time, the plumes of the snowy egret were in great demand as decorations for women's hats. They were hunted for these plumes and this reduced the population of the species to dangerously low levels.
The snowy egret is native to North, Central and South America. It is present all year round in South America, ranging as far south as Chile and Argentina. It also occurs throughout the year in the West Indies, Florida and coastal regions of North and Central America.
No Secret, Snowys are one of my favorites!!! They are beautiful with their lovely flowing plumage and in this shot it looks like this Snowy is taking a second or two to check out its reflection in the water!

The snowy egret is a small white heron. The genus name comes from Provençal French for the little egret, aigrette, which is a diminutive of aigron, 'heron'. The species name thula is the Araucano term for the black-necked swan, applied to this species in error by Chilean naturalist Juan Ignacio Molina in 1782. Wikipedia

his bird sustains itself by feeding on small fish and other small vertebrates as well as invertebrates caught by stalking. It also stirs the mud with its feet to flush out prey. This species is found around both freshwater and brackish habitats. It roosts and nests in colonies in trees near water.
