A puffed-up American Robin bracing against a bitter west wind during a snow shower. Usually, the appearance of a Robin offers the hope of an early Spring. Most likely this one is the member of a flock that's passing through towards a more hospitable Southern climate. To confound things, a few do not get the Memo and over Winter...
Yesterday, it was a delightful sunny 70F, a record high for 11/18... Today, a blustery 36F with snow showers.

Over the last few days on Lofoten, the weather was a mix of clouds and sunshine, with snowshowers in between. Wonderful winter landscapes everywhere, I love Northern Norway in winter !
Snowshowers and low temperatures over several days have transformed the Lofoten into a winter wonderland. Even locals said "it's a lot of snow". The roads are well cleared of snow, but it is difficult to park the car anywhere to take photos. I've seen quite a number of cars stuck in snowdrifts and deep snow next to the roads.
Another snow shower coming up between the mountains towards us. What with the strong winds and the snow, conditions were quite challenging in the wide open spaces to say the least.
The wintry day was full of snow showers blowing through on a biting wind and bright periods with occasional patches of blue sky.

Sometimes I yearn for the wide open spaces. This shot is from several years ago in the Shoshone National Forest in Montana. Leave tomorrow for a quick trip to Yellowstone. Will be there for 5 days. Wish it were longer, but such is the nature of working.

Our weather today is the backside of yesterday's winter storm. Very cold, northwest winds up to 30 plus mph and snow showers as the low clouds pass over . . .
It is a very interesting weather pattern, but I was still ok with sunshine, 50 degrees and no wind!

In the Western part of Germany there is hardly no winter. Only some snowshowers give the idea of winter time. The branches of this old oak are powdered by old snow and the ground of the field is covered by an icy coat.
This was taken last Saturday when Chicagoland was having a variety of different kinds of weather. Snowing like crazy one minute & then the sun was shining. This was one of the clouds that produced some very heavy snow showers heading east. I was leaving Fermilab after attending WGN Tom Skilling's annual weather seminar (which was very interesting, as it always is).
Mr Blackbird comes down for a drink after I put out fresh water to replace the water that had frozen over night last Sunday.A fresh sprinkling of snow had also fallen over night with a few flurries during the morning.
