another instance of a glorious night at Lenangenstraumen in Arctic Norway witnessing the grand show of nature last December. I can't wait for this year's possibilities to enjoy this capricious natuiral spectacle.

Here's another one from my archives I am currently working at, this time from our second journey to Iceland in December 2013. This is a panoramic shot of the mountains surrounding the stunning Hvalfjordur fjord in Southwest iceland.

Thank you all for taking a look at my gallery, its much appreciated!
River Skjálfandafljót rushing along its very picturesque canyon right after plunging down 30 metres creating Godafoss waterfall. The whole setting is so utterly beautiful, it is definitely worth not just photographing the waterfall but to hike a bit along this river which has created a formidable landscape since the last ice age.
Evening started settling in while we were on the road from Jokulsarlon via Hofn towards Djupivogur in East Iceland. Those sunsets were just the most wonderful scenario to watch while making our way to our night's quarters at Djupivogur camping site.

Siglufjordur in North Iceland in all its ice-cold beauty on a sunny Spring day. Some of you might have watched the Icelandic co-production TV series "Trapped": it is this town were they filmed most of it but the place is supposed to be Seydisfjordur in the series, where the ferries from Denmark moor and which is located in East Iceland.

Mt. Hood was beautiful yesterday afternoon. The Portland area, which is between my house and Mt. Hood, received almost a foot of snow a couple of days ago, so the foothills of Mt. Hood have a very nice white blanket to display.
And, while not perfectly clear, the sky was clear enough to allow a shot from 60 miles away to have a small amount of clarity for our cameras.
Such a pretty day and such a pretty mountain.
We are so very lucky to live in the Pacific Northwest...
And here is the first view I had of Mt Olympus through the trees at Cynthia Bay on Lake St Clair (leeawulenna), Tasmania. Cynthia Bay is actually the shallowest part of this lake, the deepest freshwater lake in Australia.
The deep basin in which the lake lies was scoured out by the action of glaciers. Moraines, where debris is forced to the margins of the glacier, run along part of the length of the lake.
The lake is 15 kilometres long and 3 kilometres wide with a surface area of 45 square kilometres. At its deepest point it is 167 metres deep. It is like an inland fjord fed by three rivers, Narcissus River, Cuvier River and Hamilton Creek. As we have already seen it is the source of the River Derwent.
My husband and I planned a get away only to be caught up in a late winter storm....in our tent in the Sierra Nevada's!

It rained heavily during most of my trip, but it stopped just long enough for me to take this image. This large mountain is located near Cranbrook, BC and part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain range.
Thank you for stopping by and for leaving me a comment! Have a wonderful weekend!

In Greek mythology Mount Olympus was the home of the gods. This mountain was given that name by explorer George Frankland in 1835. It is the 24th highest mountain in Tasmania at just 1,472 metres (4,829 ft).
This view from Cynthia Bay is the classic one, and it was first popularised by the landscape artist William Charles Piguenit (1836-1914). He made several paintings, and one of his best known is in the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

The sun being out was very rare during our couple of days in the region, but I tried to make the most of it. Practically all that snow on the mountain had fallen the night before, and more falls were to follow during the day (as I will show in later photographs).

Dawn on the Moors III
Taken the same morning as the previous shot but looking the other way.
The Black Mount, dressed in White, surrounded by pinkness.
Shortly before this the sky was blue & a few minutes later the colour had gone although the tip of the Mount was painted red by the first light of the Sun - a shot I've posted before.
I would have liked some cloud but for just a wee moment this Belt of Venus gave an intense colour which was reflected in the perfectly still waters of the Loch.
Many thanks to everyone who took the trouble to view comment or fave :)

Every life is sacred, and especially that of children and vulnerable people. In War, the truth dies first. Unbelievable as it is, a terrible war is raging in Europe. The old tree here represents the hope and renewal of life which is stronger than death and destruction. It will still be here hundreds of years from now, as this species of tree lasts for several generations. I took the photo just a few days ago on a freezing cold evening - the strong north wind swept across the country - and immediately thought of the terrible war in Ukraine. It won't let me go. I am deeply saddened by all the misery he has brought to this day and he will bring in the days to come. I don't have the words to describe my feelings and deep sadness.
The tree gives me hope that life is stronger than death and annihilation.

To the picture: Taken just before sunset with the distant Swiss Alps in the background. The distance to the freshly snow-covered mountains is about 40km. It seemed as if you could touch the mountains from the hill, the air was so clear and pure that evening, but also bitterly cold !!!

Views of the Rocky Mountains from the east in the High Plains are spectacular. It's so exciting when the mountains first come into view and then grow more and more impressive as you approach them from the plains.
In this image, we see the East and West Spanish Peaks (East to the left) viewed from State Highway 10 about 3 miles northeast of Walsenburg, Colorado.

I like to be seasonal with my pictures but haven't been out for a while. So this is one from the end of last winter just after the last decent fall of snow we had. Taken in Rannoch Moor.
Hohenwerfen Castle is a medieval rock castle, situated on a 623-metre precipice overlooking the Austrian market town of Werfen in the Salzach valley, approximately 40 kilometres south of Salzburg. The fortress is surrounded by the Berchtesgaden Alps and the adjacent Tennen Mountains. Hohenwerfen is a "sister" of Hohensalzburg Fortress, both built by the Archbishops of Salzburg in the 11th century. . ;
