My first flight shot of a Snipe. I was shooting at at it while it was perched on a fence post and got this one frame as it took flight.

Taken during the cold spell in December 2022. With the ground frozen, this Snipe was more obliging than usual and was probing around in the soil presumably finding unfrozen nooks and crannies.
SNIPE are invariably associated with waterlogged or boggy ground, so with its incredible long straight bill, it probes the mud almost vertically downwards in the manner of a sewing machine. Normally a very shy and retiring bird, seen at the Restharrow scape, Sandwich Bay, Kent.

The first time I drove down this road, there was a snipe sat up on a post. My next visit (7 years later), this Snipe was sat on the exact same post.

Image taken at Attenborough Nature Reserve in Nottinghamshire. These birds blend in well with the background and at first glance I didn't see them, but pleased to get four of them together in good light.
Had some great views of this Snipe
One out of a group that came really close. It was spooked a few times of Jackdaws, thats why the tail up

Common Snipe, I had to take a second look at this from my car as i passed it, and it was calling too! A first for me!
I always love to see Snipe on their moorland breeding grounds. This one allowed me to photograph it from over a wall.

I believe this is a Wilson's Snipe. Found in Wyoming south of Laramie. A shy bird but one I have never captured before.
There is a camper's gag sending new young campers to go looking for a snipe.. I've been looking for the last 50 years.- I guess they do exist.
