My first flight shot of a Snipe. I was shooting at at it while it was perched on a fence post and got this one frame as it took flight.

SNIPE are invariably associated with waterlogged or boggy ground, so with its incredible long straight bill, it probes the mud almost vertically downwards in the manner of a sewing machine. Normally a very shy and retiring bird, seen at the Restharrow scape, Sandwich Bay, Kent.

Common Snipe (Gallinago gallinago)

This one gave me my complimentary "Snipe on a fence post" for the season. They seem so skittish when encountered on a trail walk, but will allow a very close approach when perched on a roadside fence post.

I was watching a black phoebe working the far side of this pond, when a snipe flew in. Switched my subject for a while!

Common Snipe, WWT Slimbridge

Spotted this Wilson's snipe across the creek, and managed to get a few shots of it without it noting my presence.

I always love to see Snipe on their moorland breeding grounds. This one allowed me to photograph it from over a wall.

Image taken at Attenborough Nature Reserve in Nottinghamshire. These birds blend in well with the background and at first glance I didn't see them, but pleased to get four of them together in good light.

Thanks for viewing, and for any favs/comments.

I believe this is a Wilson's Snipe. Found in Wyoming south of Laramie. A shy bird but one I have never captured before.

There is a camper's gag sending new young campers to go looking for a snipe.. I've been looking for the last 50 years.- I guess they do exist.

Sometimes a Snipe on a fence post will let you drive very slowly until you are directly opposite. The lighting was good on the driver's side and this one gave me all kinds of chances to shoot, chimp. and change my settings. I left it still perched.
