My first flight shot of a Snipe. I was shooting at at it while it was perched on a fence post and got this one frame as it took flight.

Taken during the cold spell in December 2022. With the ground frozen, this Snipe was more obliging than usual and was probing around in the soil presumably finding unfrozen nooks and crannies.

SNIPE are invariably associated with waterlogged or boggy ground, so with its incredible long straight bill, it probes the mud almost vertically downwards in the manner of a sewing machine. Normally a very shy and retiring bird, seen at the Restharrow scape, Sandwich Bay, Kent.

This one gave me my complimentary "Snipe on a fence post" for the season. They seem so skittish when encountered on a trail walk, but will allow a very close approach when perched on a roadside fence post.

Spotted this Wilson's snipe across the creek, and managed to get a few shots of it without it noting my presence.

Thank you for taking the time to have a look at my images!!

I was watching a black phoebe working the far side of this pond, when a snipe flew in. Switched my subject for a while!

Common Snipe, I had to take a second look at this from my car as i passed it, and it was calling too! A first for me!

Snipe flashing a warning as a Jackdaw passed close by.

Met during a morning visit to my countryside. :)

I always love to see Snipe on their moorland breeding grounds. This one allowed me to photograph it from over a wall.

Image taken at Attenborough Nature Reserve in Nottinghamshire. These birds blend in well with the background and at first glance I didn't see them, but pleased to get four of them together in good light.
