A peculiar bid emerged from the roots of my snake plant. So I broke it off and put it in a pot of soil a couple weeks ago. And here it is, growing and thriving.
Sansevieria trifasciata is a species of flowering plant in the family Asparagaceae, native to tropical West Africa from Nigeria east to the Congo. It is most commonly known as the snake plant, mother-in-law's tongue, and viper's bowstring hemp, among other names.
"The mother-in-law’s tongue, also called snake plant or Sansevieria Trifasciata, is a popular houseplant. This hardy indoor succulent plant can survive low light conditions, drought, and some neglect. The snake plant is identified by its long, upright sword-shaped green leaves with yellow margins."

Did you know that NASA did a study in 1989 to find ways to detoxify space stations? The sansevieria (aka snake plant) was one the plants identified as a possibility. However, the study did not go on to determine how many plants were necessary for detoxification.

Had to plant a snake plant stalk in its own pot. Okay, I didn't have to, well no I did. Wasn't gonna let it die.
Sansevieria, a houseplant otherwise known as "snake plant" or "mother-in-law's tongue" for the Macro Mondays Group.
I tried making some Boho-style decor accessories! The "rattan" loveseat, rug, and plants included :)
Now Giselle is having a little get-together to show everything off.
As winter settles in and the temperatures plummet outside, I turn my camera inward; this time, towards my house plants.
Got to love a Snake plant

I’ve been falling in love with 1990s-early 2000s Knickerbocker Bears*, and I spotted this little cutie on eBay. She’s missing an eye, and I always have had a soft spot for misfit toys, so voila. She came with the name Libby, and I like it. I’ll figure out something to do about that missing eye. (Probably a cool eyepatch, ha! She seems scrappy; don’t let her dapper little bowtie fool you.)
The plant is a snake plant**, so now I guess I’m one o’ them Succulent Hipsters™️. I named it Leslie Howard, in keeping with my love of referencing classic black and white Hollywood movie stars that almost nobody else my age has ever heard of. I’m COOL, dammit! I am COOL.
*Any connection with the Knickerbocker Toy Company has yet to be determined! I’m still researching it! It’s confusing!
**I got it from thesill.com! HIGHLY recommended for dingle-dorks like me who love plants but don’t know much about them. Their care instructions couldn’t be any clearer. They even have a section on their site marked “For beginners”! Noice.
I remember walking into the entrance ways of old homes in Richmond, Virginia when I was growing up. There were always pots of striped Snake Plants growing there in next to no light. I never saw those half-starved creatures flower, but when I moved to Miami, it was a whole new story.
In honor of those memories, I gathered up and dragged home Snake Plants a neighbor had thrown away and planted them along my new driveway, not knowing how quickly they would fill every available space and send their carrot-like roots up and over the concrete making the driveway ever smaller each year.
Despite the effort it takes to keep them in check, I am regularly rewarded with the beauty of their subtle delicate white flowers, filaments curling like tiny ribbons to proclaim the location of Snake Plant pollen to visiting bees.
