It's a small snail shell (1.2 inch) on fresh snow. It's the "peel" of a snail ;-)

Pay attention to the small snow crystals. It looks very structured. Cool...

I saw this snail on a gatepost yesterday and took a photo of it, but then looked again and noticed the edge of the shell, so went in for another macro shot. This time I reduced the size of the screen by two so I had almost no extra background, but I have still cropped it a bit too.

This snail was making slow progress, hampered by the dense grass. And my photography was also hampered by our cat Mini, who climbed onto my back as I crouched down, camera in hand, and refused to get off again! We must have looked a strange sight!

Happy Thursday all!!

For Monochrome Bokeh Thursday ;o)

I've been experimenting shooting bamboo (got a small patch growing in the garden) and decided to try it out against the reeded glass in the entrance lobby. Having fun with reflections on a glass table too ;o)

Thanks for Viewing.

It's ok it's an empty snail shell. I got quite carried away trying various objects in ice. I was glad of the subzero temperatures as I placed them in snow where they were backlit by the low sun so I had no worries about any of them melting too soon.

The fine white sands of beautiful Ogi-ike Beach on Minami-jima are scattered with fossil snail shells like this one. Minami-jima is a small island to the south-west of Chichi-jima (in the Ogasawara Islands chain, Tokyo Prefecture).

These snails know intuitively what to do when it rains for days and in the evening they all crawl down the stalks of the teasel.

Just saw this little snail stuck to some guttering I was about to put up at the back of the house....it was about 1cm in diameter (the snail that is...not the guttering!), Olloclip macro @ 21x, handheld, remote, cropped and edited in Snapseed on iPhone.

This weeks Macro Mondays entry for the theme of Curves.

The snail carries the world on his shoulders.

The weight of his entire universe

Hangs firmly over his head,

And he holds on.

The snail leaves a trail wherever he goes.

He leaves his mark,

His silver lining.

Sometimes he goes back,

Or crosses with another snail

And perhaps for a while their trails intertwine.

But the snail must continue his journey alone.

The line is left behind,

Leaving a mark so everyone knows;

'The snail was here'.

#Shell

A simple one. This white/cream-coloured snail shell has been sitting on my shelf as part of a miniature scene for ages. I don’t recall when or where I found it so it’s probably a childhood or teenage find. This time, The approach was pretty straightforward: "Take the snail shell and photograph it in an interesting-looking way." In my mind's eye, I saw a high-key image with a strict focus on the Fibonacci spiral, so you might ask yourself how I ended up with a low-key, planet-style space-themed photo. Well, I started off by taking a few (nice) images with softer and lighter tones but when I experimented with the light, and I got this low-key image, I thought that it looked more dramatic than the soft-coloured previous attempts. And since it also reminded me of a planet with a giant and eternal storm roaring at its pole, I was sold (you know how much of a sucker I am for all things sci-fi) ;) But actually, I was torn between one of the lighter-toned images (in which you don't recognize the shell at once) and this low-key version, so I might upload that other version as well, probably for Wednesday Macro. So stay "shell tuned" :)

I’m busy today and hope to catch up with you tonight!

HMM, Everyone!

For the Macro Monday challenge "Windowsill" (April 27th 2020)

A snail shell found in the garden ... what treasures we find during lock-down ;o)

Our windows all have quite dark wooden frames, so I had to perch the shell on an open window to catch enough sunshine to light the shot!

As promised, here's my Macro Mondays "Shell" outtake. It's the same snail shell as in my official photo for the theme, but this time, it's a small detail of the shell's underside. While taking the MM photos, I noticed that this particular shell has a tiny extra hole next to the actual hole/opening. It took me a while to find info on that particular part of the shell, and what we are looking at apparently is its umbilicus. The search also helped me to identify the snail species this shell once belonged to: Neverita josephinia, a member of the moon snail family, and a predatory sea snail native to the Mediterranian region, so it's most likely that this shell is a souvenir from a holiday at Italy's Adriatic Sea when I was six, but Croatia is also a possibility.

When I looked through the viewfinder, the Laowa set to 2x magnification, this part of the shell reminded me of the unique and very special stone formations of Antelope Canyon. Well, looking at the image today, I should admit that it also reminds me of a tongue of sorts, so maybe the snail that once occupied this shell was a Rolling Stones fan ;)

Enjoy the rest of the week, dear Flickr friends!!
