First photo from the Xiaomi 13 Ultra! A little snail shell on top of the sandy dirt near our home. Light edit to the photo.
Inside Jagdschloss Granitz on the island of Rügen in the Baltic Sea. The spiral staircase is made of cast iron with a beautifully intricate design. It is in perfect harmony with the wooden ceiling and reminds me of a snail shell.

I saw this beautiful snail shell one morning and had to take a closer look.
I had been reading a few things about snails and slugs lately after developing an interest from reading The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating.
Also, snails are great at one thing I'm particularly terrible at: living slowly.

Today I created a terrarium from some woodland plants and small friendship stones and shells collected from nearby beaches. Two of the rocks (*LOVE IS* & the b&w speckled stone leading the path) are from a dear flickr friend. The little green glass balls are actually pieces from a broken upside down cordial glass (now a shallow dish for miniature seashells, smaller than my baby fingernail) and a decanter top.
“There is a serene and settled majesty to woodland scenery that enters into the soul and delights and elevates it, and fills it with noble inclinations.”

I found this abandoned shell on the rough pastureland. No sign of the occupant, so presumably said occupant has left, for whatever reason ... don't know why, looks like a des res to me!
An empty snail shell on the petals of a marguerite petal about 2 feet above the ground. The shell does seem to have been kept in place with slime. I'm pretty certain the occupant has not gone on holiday.

Took a very short walk at the park on a very cool, gray, overcast, slightly drizzly afternoon. Nothing going on so tried to find a few things to capture to pass the time. Sunshine to return in a day or so along with warming temps.

On the B&W version I spent time in the write up talking about how this was made. Please see that one for more details.
Two lights in soft boxes were placed to the side and slightly behind the shell.

To some this is a beautiful shell...to others it is a reminder that a trip to see Snail Kites sits on the other side of the new year!

From the moment she found it Helena carried her "pet snail" around with her everywhere. She kept giving it kisses...I washed the shell...and made a blanket out of a leaf. The next day she came down to the laundry room with me and insisted on bringing Flap with her. She ended up stepping on "him" after putting him on the ground so that she could help me transfer wet clothes to the dryer. She was so upset. I'm just glad she didn't cut her foot on the sharp pieces. She finally decided to believe me that there really wasn't a snail living in the shell after all.
