We saw many groups of Smooth-billed Ani’s during our trip to the Pantanal. This ended up being a species that we probably didn’t pay as much attention to as I would have liked because there were plenty of them around. I thought these two looked pretty neat on their perch, that beak is pretty crazy looking.

View from Redondo Beach
Description/info: Redondo Beach is coastal city in Los Angeles County, California, United States, located in the South Bay region.
One of several White-rumped Sandpipers flapping its wings and showing its white rump. It is the first time I had the opportunity to photograph this species. On the NE side of the slough there is a small kind of 'beach' which has yielded good shorebirds this year. Today there was a mixed flock of around 40 Stilt, Semipalmated and White-rumped sandpiper. Lots of foraging and aggressive behaviour, even between species. The black spots on the water are midge cases. Dale took a handful of mud and water and there were also a number of small worms. Seems to be a super productive spot. No wonder it is so popular. Brown slough, Condie, Saskatchewan, Canada. 27 May 2022. The only place to photograph from is the road, which is raised around 3 meters above the beach/water so one cant get a nice smooth background.
Cedar Waxwing, Bombycilla cedrorum. Lifer for me, during a Texas Master Naturalist Bird Hike. Really too small/distant for a good image, and probably the focus (if any) was elsewhere. Call it “painterly”. If I ever get a good shot, I’ll post that.

The scene was lit by the Moon, however it was so high up that unfortunately didn't fit into the frame. Gave nice glow to the sea, tho.

The hotel we stayed in in Northern Borneo was chosen on account of the abundant wildlife that calls the hotel grounds their home. In all we counted five of these Smooth Coated Otters.
