Ben orders a smoothie from a roadside snack bus near Huelo. And a word about my rental bike: holy cow these things are light!! I mean, I love my steel steed back home, but having never ridden a bike like this one I was super impressed.

We have a TON of local peaches to use up, so the base of this smoothie was fresh yellow peaches. Then, I added a handful of kale, a few rehydrated (soaked) prunes, some frozen berries, a frozen banana and a few whole organic strawberries that the wee one had abandoned from her breakfast. Sprinkled it with a few hemp seeds for a little textural interest... and voila... using what I got! :-)
SportAccord Convention 2014 delegates take AISTS’s Fender Blender bike for spin. The end result? A refreshing smoothie via pedal power!
In 2010, a group of AISTS MSA students conducted a feasibility study on a business concept involving the use of pedal power to generate heat to produce the quintessential Swiss dish of Raclette (melted cheese).
Discovering that it would take 8 cyclists in tandem to produce enough energy to melt a single slice of cheese, the team found an existing solution: the “FenderBlender” which provided a far more inviting challenge which required less energy for a more refreshing output and was logistically a simpler solution.

Having a rather depressing day, was gonna make a smoothie with ginger, coconut, banana, and pineapple... and ice cream. But fate had other plans and the blender exploded OUT THE BOTTOM. So much for that idea. We were able to salvage some off the counter with a spoonula.. :( I think I might have ruined the 34 year old blender, so maybe I can finally buy a new one.
Lunch! Sadly I'm out of leafy greens...my first smoothie of 2013 without them. This is unsweetened chocolate almond milk, banana, blueberry, mango, oats and almond butter. I honestly do not miss milkshakes.
