One of my earliest attempts at night photography brought back for the holiday season. Shot in downtown Chicago, on my way from my office to the train. No tripod and no clue what I was doing.
BNSF G-MTELVW9, yet another grain train, is seen just northwest of Townsend, MT as it crosses over the Missouri River for points west. The second unit, a GE Dash 9, was showing its power through the smoke emitted from the stack.
An unidentified Northern class 144 Pacer, along with class 153 unit 153328, make smoke signals announcing their departure from Doncaster's bay platform 5 with the 8.06pm to Sheffield (2R59).
Sold on capturing the signal glint rather than the number.

Judging by the amount of smoke being pumped out, I'd say this was a Scott two stroke motorcycle.
In typical timing the one southbound stopping train per hour almost coincides with a northbound passing freight, making for a few twitchy minutes ahead of their imminent arrival.
The freight is the 10.01 Washwood Heath - Peak Forest Cemex (4M11) in the hands of DB Shed no. 66200, seen powering its way through the splendid MR stone-lined cutting at Belper, as the 11.36 Matlock - Newark (2N35) heads away from the station with EMT's class 158 no. 158780 doing the honours.
The exhaust display evident in the backlight might not appeal to the environmentalists, but at least pleased the photographer. Taken looking under the King Street overbridge.
