On my travels today was a happy field of sunflowers...............
A sadistic smile appears during a clearing on the East face of the Monte Rosa. The cloud's shapes are real. No photoshop. No masks.
East Face is the highest alpine peak by prominence, and the only himalayan wall in the entire Alps.
This side consists of a 2,400-metre-high (7,900 ft) wall overlooking Macugnaga, whose snows feed the Belvedere Glacier at its base.
The first ascent to Mount Rosa from the East side is in 1872, by Ferdinand Imseng of Saas, who leads a rope group of
three Englishmen.
Imseng himself was the victim of one of the
first great mountaineering disasters: in 1881 he died, victim of an avalanche, together with CAI academician Damiano Marinelli crossing the gully that he will take the latter's name.
The first refuges are born: the Marinelli Hut is inaugurated in 1886, in the middle of the East face of Mount Rosa.
