First built between 1340 and 1342 for the merchant guild of St Mary it was then enlarged between 1394 and 1414 for the United guild of St Mary the virgin St John the baptist and St Catherine, this was most helpful as the town had been previously divided into two half's, The Priors half, and this the Earl's half, this being on the site of the Norman castle built by the Earl of Chester. This North Window was altered in the late 1490's by shortening it so that a large tapestry could be installed beneath it for King Henry VII's induction into the guild in 1500, it is still on display.

In the foreground can be seen number 22 Bayley Lane which dates from around 1425 and was built on the site of the former castles bake house. The front had a shop installed in the 19th century.

Listed Grade 1 & Grade II* respectively
