These tables were made for a shipping company that wanted a place to display their large model ships and numerous trophies in its office. But if they didn’t have massive boats…oops, I mean ‘shipping vessels’ on top of them they could also be used as sofa tables, buffet tables or even autopsy tables – whichever one you need most.

The inspiration for this piece came to me when I lived in a loft on Irving Park. The people on the floor below me would have the best fights and I would tip-toe across the diagonal wood floor and listen to them through the floor vents. Not to eavesdrop, of course, but to see if I could learn some new words! This brushed steel table is a tribute to apartment living, where your neighbors don’t know your name but they all know your business.

Millions of years ago, mud and dinosaur guts were crushed under the earth’s surface becoming beautiful marble. Iron ore as old as the Big Bang was then turned into the steel that I bravely hunted and gathered from a local steel mill. I combined these ancient materials using modern machinery, my opposable thumbs and intelligent design to create an ageless brushed steel beauty in just a matter of weeks. (Note: Some dinosaurs were harmed in the making of this table. Sorry.)

I’m sure you have heard of a “C” Table – the sleek, minimalist table, shaped like a C that slides under your couch to provide a convenient working space and an elegant addition to your room. But this version can also be tipped over (carefully) and used as a two-legged table. That’s what bumps up this table up to a C+, but it is anything but average.

Don’t just have an end table to hold your tissues and remote when you can have one that adds to the overall vibe of your room. The minimalist design and one-piece construction creates a strong, fluid look in the smallest of spaces. It might just bring you to tears. Do you need a tissue?

You open the door and see him standing there. He’s the strong, silent type with a steely gaze and a physique to match. He’s not much for conversation but you will always know where he stands. And just by looking at him, you know he’ll be there every day, greeting you at the door with flowers or candy or maybe a lamp and always willing to help you with your bags and the mail. What a guy…I mean hallway table!

In French, the name means “Very Great” (kinda). In Spanish, it means “Three Grates” (again, kinda). No matter the language, this unassuming, long-legged beauty will add romance to any decor. And the top is made of three recycled heating grates, bringing a sense of je ne sais quoi to this mesa bonita! Yes, I speak fluent Franish.

There’s a lot more to this steel console table than meets the eye. Between the thick glass top and the hand-crafted garden of flowers is an unexpected surprise. When you put a bumblebee-colored marble in the concealed porthole at one end it will effortlessly “fly” over, under and through the garden in search of pollen and smiles. Honey not included.
