Had another sweet encounter with a Great Grey Owl at a friend's acreage today. We saw the owl fly past while hiking in their spruce woods, then when we got back to the yard, I was searching the treeline along the edge of the yard for the bird, only to realize it was in a small spruce not 30 feet from me!
An unbelievable lightning storm last night passed us by to the North. This is an 8-second exposure. To watch it in real time was just amazing. Constant flickering with bolts coming out of the clouds with a speed that seemed like a time-lapse.
Here is the video I took with my phone.

My first opportunity to see Comet 2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS.
Very nice tail, much longer than NEOWISE. I can't wait to see how it develops over the next few nights as it rises higher in the evening sky, though I worry the Moonlight will hinder that.
This is a 4-image stack.
These otters popped up from a hole in the ice just 20 feet from me at the Narrows in Prince Albert National Park in Saskatchewan Canada.
I woke at 4am to see that satellites indicated that the northern lights storm had just started, which meant that I had roughly an hour to get outside before they showed up. Thankfully, the spot I had picked the day before for this was just 7 miles away and my camera gear was all ready.
This storm wasn't the brightest, but it was one of maybe 4 times in 23 years that I could see the reds with my naked eye. That also meant they often overpowered my camera's sensor.
The moonlight didn't interfere with this show, but gave some lights to the foreground. And the lake I took these pictures on had very little snow, giving me opportunity to see some reflection.
Waiting for the storm the night before on this lake, I didn't see lights, but did hear the lake giving some very impressive ice quakes.
In all, it was a great way to start the morning.
Enjoyed a nice morning out at Crex Meadows this morning. Not super active, but seeing 3 wolves, 2 shirkes, and some Sharp-tailed Grouse was satisfying.

Nice little Butterfly in Saskatoon.
If you know the species, please feel free to share with myself and viewers. Thank you.
This wolf may be way off on Lake Waskesiu (a mile or more), but he is my first to see and photograph. I do hope for closer shots some day, but am thrilled to see him after trying for 5 1/2 years in the park.

With some help from feedback on the iNaturalist app, I have learned that my flower here is a young blossom of Gaillardia aristata (Common Gaillardia).
Hiking along along the Gandy Dancer Trail this morning when this porcupine waddled out onto the trail not 20 feet in front of me.
In less than a minute (thought it felt like a lot longer), I got more than a dozen varied and wonderful shots, and he was gone.
So Stinking Cute!

A phenomenal Geomagnetic Storm last night. This is the best storm I have seen in the States to date (after 23 years of watching).
