Siberian Huskies at Retordica, Plateau de Retord, Cuvéry, Ain, France

For more than 25 years, an international dog sled race has been taking place in the wilderness of Plateau de Retord. Many mushers love this site to train their teams throughout the winter.

The sled dog racing is subdivided into several categories according to the number of dogs harnessed and in three subcategories according to the breed of dogs harnessed.

Indeed, the faster Siberian Husky compete in a separate category, the other three breeds : Alaskan Malamute, Samoyed and Greenland dog run in the same category, while the so-called "Nordic type" dogs participate in their own category.

Made the boys a "ramp" for their sledding in our yard today. They got way higher when they did in on their own but they had more fun going down the hill and up the ramp to catch air together.

Sledding at Titus Sparrow Park. Snow day!

Who's having more fun - the boy or the dog? Despite the look on his face, the kid on the sled was having a great time also.

July 19, 2017: Looking for something cool when the temp is 91 degrees. Prospect Park, Brooklyn

Yeah, here's me... hard at work at home on the projects that I am supposed to be getting done during my time off from work. I woke up this morning and decided that I wanted to go sledding. I figured I would go over to the park and spend a little bit of time...turned out the park was closed for hunting! That was the first time I had ever seen that, so we had to drive around trying to find another place to go. Afterall I had promised Meeko that we'd go sledding and I didn't want to disappoint him (and you can see from this photo that he was really thrilled about this. I don't even want to tell you how long it took for me to get him ON the coaster with me! And this was his one and only run down the hill! I guess sled dogs are supposed to PULL the sled and not ride on it!) At least I had fun... but now I want to find a bigger hill! Yeah... I can tell that a great deal of work is going to be accomplished this week!

Crazy amount of kids of all ages enjoying the winther!

Note: Will be out of range for a few days. Be good while I am gone.

ICYMI yesterday: I put together a video montage (2 minutes), which includes a big, clumsy, old man trying to slide on a little saucer. Click if you want to see the kids and laugh at the old fart.

looking down the sled run from the top of the hill... truly an awesome ride

I purposely scanned this one a little funky -- also made a "normal" scan, but i like this one better, it somehow brings back that crunchy snow and sharp bite in the air, and the kids' voices laughing, a bit more strongly!

One of the first buildings you see when entering Sherbrooke Village is the Blacksmith Building.

The Blacksmith Shop has operated continuously since it was established in the 1870s by Joe McLane. The Blacksmith Shop was a busy but sociable place where farm implements, carts, plows, tools, chains and sled runners were made, and horses were shod. Today the blacksmith produces ironwork for the Village Restoration and for sale. Items can be purchased at The Company Store.

Sherbrooke Village depicts a typical Nova Scotian village from 1860 to pre-WW1. With approximately 80 buildings, over 25 of those open to the public, it is the largest Nova Scotia Museum site. Visit the woodturner shop, blacksmith, pottery shop, and printery. Built on an economy of ship building, lumbering and gold mining, Sherbrooke Village reflects Nova Scotia as it was during its industrial boom in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Visit a place where time has stood still... visit Sherbrooke Village!

The Agony and the Ecstasy

We took the kids sledding near June Lake California today and all had a great time. I took a few shots of others coming down the hill and loved the action and pure joy in this shot. I have to give the Dad credit, because I wouldn't have recommended he go so fast with his tiny little girl sitting in front of him. However, even off the jumps he maintained control - - and she was obviously enjoying the ride.

The first run down the hill.

Remember to always keep your feet up so you can see where you’re going…

Overnight it has new snow against ;-)

The two feel comfortable dressed very well and have a lot of fun.

Dave took this and I absolutely love it. The day after Christmas, sledding with the girls in Los Alamos. Pure. joy.
