NGC 5466 in Bootes is a loose globular cluster of very metal-poor stars, indicating a very high age, estimated at 12.88 billion years. The globular cluster is located in the galactic halo of our Milky Way, about 52,000 light-years from Earth. In 2005, a tidal tail was discovered emanating from NGC 5466 and extending about 45° across the sky.
Captured in mid May.

Farm workers harvest cranberries from a flooded field in Richmond, just south of Vancouver. Steam from a mill on the mighty Fraser River rises into the morning sky. Captured somewhere on Lulu Island, Richmond, British Columbia, Canada~ October 12, 2018 💦
⚠️ NOTE: As with the nuisance to neighbours when people stand in the middle of their street or venture onto their property taking photos of cherry blossoms or fall leaves, it's also a nuisance to farmers when people do the same to them. Please show some respect! ⚠️

Abandoned Farmhouse

He was a big man, says the size of his shoes
on a pile of broken dishes by the house;
a tall man too, says the length of the bed
in an upstairs room; and a good, God-fearing man,
says the Bible with a broken back
on the floor below the window, dusty with sun;
but not a man for farming, say the fields
cluttered with boulders and the leaky barn.
A woman lived with him, says the bedroom wall
papered with lilacs and the kitchen shelves
covered with oilcloth, and they had a child,
says the sandbox made from a tractor tire.
Money was scarce, say the jars of plum preserves
and canned tomatoes sealed in the cellar hole.
And the winters cold, say the rags in the window frames.
It was lonely here, says the narrow country road.
Something went wrong, says the empty house
in the weed-choked yard. Stones in the fields
say he was not a farmer; the still-sealed jars
in the cellar say she left in a nervous haste.
And the child? Its toys are strewn in the yard
like branches after a storm—a rubber cow,
a rusty tractor with a broken plow,
a doll in overalls. Something went wrong, they say.
Barcelona harbour, after sunset.
Shot hand-held with the Sony NEX7 and the Zony 24/1.8 Lens was wide open, underexposed according to the meter but sky captured exactly as I saw it.
After a sunset sail into the Mediterranean I captured this image of the gloaming over the masts of the pleasure craft. Barcelona has much to recommend it, this angle just one of many worth a look.

The deep blue winter sky captured together with the tree line reflections in the Tardebigge waterway (part of the Worcester & Birmingham Canal).
A software created Multiple Exposure of the Vermillion Replica Lighthouse and blue winter sky capture. The combination has created a surrealistic and dreamy lighthouse scene.
A vertical view looking up through silhouetted pine branches into a dense starfield in the night sky. The Milky Way’s structure can be seen faintly arching from the lower right to the upper left, with dark interstellar clouds and pinpoints of blue and white stars scattered across the sky.
Captured inside Bandelier National Monument, this image blends natural stillness with cosmic motion, offering a peaceful and awe-inspiring look at the universe beyond the trees. This single-exposure astrophotography shot showcases the sky as seen from the ponderosa forests near the Frijoles Canyon rim.
Stela J was erected by K'ak' Tiliw Chan Yopaat in 756 CE and is carved in the wrap-around style. It stands 5 meters (16 ft) high. Stela J tells us that 12 years after being crowned, Cauac Sky captured and beheaded Uaxaclajuun Ub’aah K’awiil, the ruler of Copán, in 738 CE to bring about Quiriguá’s independence.
Opua, Bay of Islands, New Zealand. This is our view. These two shots are extremely similar, right down to the fact of the car ferry just leaving with its load of cars crossing to the the other side. One photo was taken 28 August 2007, during our early days here. The other photo I took today, 2 April 2022. On every day, every hour, every minute, the atmosphere and the colours change. Over the years buildings have come and gone, trees have grown. Can you spot the differences? 🌞

I moved over a bit and recaptured the branch hanging over the water in the distance that was the last post. I am about to run out of the reflected sky captures I made on this fortunate trek. Reply if this train of exposures is starting to wear on your nerves. This capture accompanies other shots on the same tour which boast terrific clouds and fabulous still water reflections. The foliage is burned and sere but I think the reflections on the water pops best in this one. I also feel I hit the water exposure just right if skirting a shaky capture. I edited toward that water effect. The water didn't perform on my more recent trips; I really only took away mostly exercise, booo. This afternoon, I was out there later but determined an evening sky was not going to form. This earlier afternoon brought great skies but generally still waters that reflected the terrific skies so I returned to visit old haunts. We have been subject to some days with dud skies and I was determined to take advantage of these skies. The clouds are what generated the great reflections on the water around the snags. Fall is over; I have resolved that my best autumn ever is at a close. I am still not willing to let this autumn slip away even though the foliage is largely gone. I made another loop of the path because we had a break in the overcast and some still waters. Drama reflected by the waters.
I needed a lot more exercise because I have spent too much time at the computer. I got a couple of shots of the foliage in the distance but it is deteriorating so I let it go dark but processed like crazy. I guess this scene just grabbed me emotionally for some reason. I think the close-in water looks like textured shower curtain glass and I like it. I decided to recapture earlier shots. I made the most of the clouds. I see too many scenes ruined by flare from blank skies posted on Flickr and feel sorry for their selection of glass on their cameras. I wish they would opt for better single-focal length lenses instead of those 12-16X zooms.
When you are having trouble getting back to sleep, it’s time to grab the camera and take a walk to the beach!

Evening light over a historic building in Stockholm, Sweden. Warm lamps and statues stand out against the deep blue sky. Captured with Nikon Z6 and 40mm Z lens.
Here’s another Vertorama from Saturday morning’s rained-out sunrise shoot at the Theewaterskloof dam near Villiersdorp.
This is the only shot that I managed to take with some decent colour in the sky… captured about ten minutes after sunrise… and about fifteen minutes before the heavens opened again… and I was forced to make a hasty retreat to my car.
Whenever I’m shooting somewhere and waiting for the best light… I always move around as much as possible… trying to find as many interesting compositions as possible. Every time I see something that’s worthy of pointing my camera at… I always rate the strength of that composition with all the other comps that I’ve found so far. That way… when the nice light does arrive… I can dash back to reshoot my favourite comp in the best conditions.
But when the weather conditions are crap… and I’m not expecting any nice light… then somehow… my clever comp-rating trick falls by the wayside… and I just shoot whatever takes my fancy… without comparing it to the other comps that I’ve found. This was the case on Saturday morning… the sky was so cloudy that I honestly didn’t expect to see the sun at all… let alone seeing some nice light at sunrise.
So I just ambled around shooting everything in sight… but despite the great location… I actually struggled to find any really appealing compositions here (I couldn’t see the wood for the trees)! But then… just when I least expected it… I noticed some orange tones starting to appear in the clouds. Damn… where was the strongest composition… damn… all these trees look alike… where was it!!!!!!!! I ran around like a headless chicken for at least three minutes… watching the colours fading… and kicking myself for not being more observant!!
I (re)learned a couple of very valuable lessons here… (1) Even if it looks like there’s no chance of nice light, that doesn’t mean that the good light will not appear… and (2) Don’t stop thinking simply because it’s easier to not think!!
Nikon D3100, Sigma 10-20mm at 16mm, aperture of f14, with a 1/4th second exposure.
