After this little Black Skimmer chick finished downing this long Needle Fish, which was an amazing feat in itself, I don't think it needed to be fed for quite a while! The fish was much longer than the chick.

Re-entering the nesting area.

Flame or Neon Skimmer also known as Gwendolyn just to be sure. The second most numerous of dragonflies at the lagoon where I hunt. Any time I want a lot of color in a series - like now - I add a Flame Skimmer.

Keep our ponds and lakes and rivers clear. One dragonfly can eat 100-150 mosquitos and gnats a day. Imagine - if you don't have a calculator - what 10,000 dragonflies can eat!

Pretty soon, this beach should be covered my these little balls of fuzz. Hundreds of adults were still sitting on nest.

There were lots of black skimmers standing around on Cumberland Island, Georgia when we visited last year.

Black Skimmers are always fun to observe and photograph. I feel we should try to experiment with try to create something different from what you have photographed before otherwise things get mundane. The sunrise this particular morning was spectacular and got lucky with a bird and a minnow in it.

Thank you for your favs and kind comments.

Spent some time with the skimmers early morning

...or perhaps the title should be gastrocolic reflex...lol..

Caught in low light and light rain. The DoF is a little shallow, but I like the way the wings turned out.
