My photographic goal in this B&W photo was focused on capturing the mechanical details in high contrast to emphasize the texture and function of this machine. The elements are tightly framed to emphasize the rugged construction and industrial aesthetic that highlights the interplay between the track and the toothed sprocket that drives it.

Can you guess what this is?

The answer is in the tags below.

Learning to manipulate a skid steer is not an easy task. However, I am mastering it!

This build is by HO Whole Fun and is called Wood Cabin.

I thought I'd try something a bit different for these cold winter days.

This is a very detailed build and it has LED lights in some of the bricks!

It should be interesting as things go on!

This is from last November. The equipment will be coming in 2 months. They didn't get a lot of use last year...hopefully a similar fate awaits them this year.

And for the equipment geeks, here's the New Holland page

It's prescription day, gotta fill the boxes with medications!

It is always good to have some help when doing this job every few days!

I have a good group of helpers it seems!

BCOL 4618 leads a G889 (grain empties) along the frozen Galena River. This is the first train over the snow covered CN rails this morning after an overnight dusting of snow. In the distance the sound of snow blowers and skidsteers clearing pavement floats on the air, but the scene in Grant Park is still relatively serene and peaceful on this Sunday morning. In the cab, the conductor on BCOL 4618 has just rung up the BNSF dispatcher with the goal of getting a smooth run from Portage (Galena) to East Dubuque and the end of their day with a crew change at Dubuque. They'll get that good run as after confirming their TGBO, "Okay, here we go, signal indication" was the answer from the BNSF dispatcher in Fort Worth.

The tri-state area was coated in several snow falls this week, finally turning the brown landscape back to white again as it should be this time of year. Reports of a BCOL leader, albeit in CN paint, running west on the CN across Illinois this morning was enough to get me out of the house on a sunny Sunday for a bit of a chase. I guessed I could assume he'd be to Galena around 2.5-3 hours after he was reported by Genoa, Illinois, and so I headed out with the goal of making Grant Park in Galena my first stop. I didn't do too bad in my guess - I only had to wait about 30 minutes before the cowl unit snaked around the corner and through the freshly snow-covered scene.

Caravan Pacific Trucking operates top quality equipment that is perfectly maintained so that it is always ready to work.

Every year, around the beginning of November, they stage the snow plows in the clubhouse parking lot. Since it snowed on Halloween, I'm guessing they're gonna get a lot of use this year. Ugh.

Every once in a while, in the late fall, it seems like I wind up photographing the snowplows that the landscaping crew stages for the winter. For the first time, they had 12 machines that were all of the same color, model, manufacturer. So, well, I just had to document it. There are a few more pictures inbound.

Caterpillar was selling these Navistar-built on-road dump trucks from 2011 to 2016. It was discontinued due to low sales numbers.

These two pieces of equipment were situated on the grounds of a rock quarry in Green County, Wisconsin.

Happy Truck Thursday!

Of course the Legos turn out in numbers to help in the kitchen.

The helpers were appreciated so much.

Picking the grapes off the stems and moving grapes around with their skid steer!

I have no idea how I could get anything done without their help!

Looking back to a dreary spring day along the South Shore finds a PF9 heading west down the fragments of 11th Street, in Michigan City. MAP had given me an early heads up about these guys the night before, as they had days worth of backlog to move thanks to a construction outage temporarily severing the east end of the railroad from the west. At this point the Double Track NWI project was well underway, evidenced by the absent pavement (and appropriately parked skidsteer) in the foreground.

Needless to say, this scene is totally unrecognizable today.

Equipment on site

This photograph was taken from the passenger side of a moving automobile. (Somewhere in or near Holmes County, Ohio.) It was in my archives from last year.

This is the 5th in a range of City alternates. This time from set 60076: Demolition site.

The dozer, scraper and skidsteer work closely together to prepare the upcoming road construction. The crew uses the temporary shed to eat lunch and drink coffee during daytime or store their tools at night when rodents scavenge for leftovers.
