Iowa Interstate Wreck, 06/26

On June 3, 2026, a westbound Iowa Interstate freight train struck a truck at the state Highway 21 crossing just west of Victor, Iowa. The truck failed to yield for the crossing, and was struck, killing one truck occupant, and seriously injuring the other.

The impact derailed 17 cars, and two locomotives, the 502 and the 513. For the uninitiated, the 513 is painted for the Rock Island, the railroad that operated this line until its shutdown in 1980.

Here, I'm looking northeast from Old US 6 Hwy., and the 513 has been lifted back to an upright position, the cars had been shoved off to the side, and MOW crews were already working to put the track back in place. Getting Hwy. 21 reopened would take a few more days.
