Another shot from yesterday on the river Taf(f) Cardiff

Macro Mondays 06/08/18 theme Decay

I had to hunt high and low to find a flower skeleton (most are cut of in the autumn and put on the fire or compost heap) but I found some in a tree next to my hydrangea bush.I wanted to create an image of life as the reflection of death so I placed the skeletal flower on a mirror and photographed it then replaced it with the fresh flower and photographed that one.The rest was finished of in Photoshop.no special lighting setups just the pop up flash on the camera.

Desert succulents are beautiful, both in life and (sometimes) in death.

Rube Goldberg would have been proud of this ~1980 solar research project. 20 of these "trees" were designed to harness sunlight to generate steam and drive turbines to produce electricity.

Officially known as the Delta Solar Ruins; I got really lucky with this shot to have so much green in the desert landscape. 11.5 months of the year, this area is brown but this spring was very wet and there was a nice bloom.

Number 322 of my 365 photo challenge - A split-toned, focus stacked, macro image of a pair of skeletal Chinese Lanterns.

This was indeed a very difficult stack to get right and there are many mistakes within the image but I am generally happy with it. I am keen to improve upon it so any constructive advice on how to achieve a more seamless blend in Photoshop would be greatly appreciated! :-)

where to go from here...

technically my first sp...not planned...i was just riding my bike around and really liked the feel of the empty waiting room at our local train station...the light was perfect and the window opposite made a great tripod.

for Crazy Tuesday: leaves

An old fallen tree lifts its dead limbs to the sky in the Scottish Highlands, where life is sometimes harsh.

Late afternoon light over the wee island of Dunbuy.

Dunbuy is situated on the Aberdeenshire coastline north of Slains Castle.

To me, it resembles the skeletal remains of an ancient Dragon.

a thousand thousand years from now,

still, below a ruined sky,

you may find a standing stone,

arms raised against the steady rain,

my skeletal remains.

I decided to post process with selective colouring on this original full colour image to make the skeletal leaf in decay stand out.

Hey I'm so proud of myself, this is a SOOC JPEG, really, no fooling, it wasn't easy as Photomatix was crying in my taskbar :-)

The light is the setting sun BTW.

Coming across these old wagons always makes me wonder what stories they must hold.

A Halloween decoration emanates an eerie feeling of omnipresence as it beckons me from the shelf of a discount store. Even in the context of a brightly lit retail environment, full of shoppers and just one aisle away from potato chips, the eyes radiate pure malevolence. In moments like this it all feels directed solely at me. It's almost as if only I can see these things as they truly are, rather than the cheap plastic skull that other shoppers see. My mind always seems to work in this two-track system: interpreting what I actually see versus how things make me feel. There's often a wide gulf separating the two. It's the simultaneous curse and blessing bestowed upon artists. I snapped the picture then hurried on with my shopping. But memories of this moment will linger.
