This is one of my favorite creations using Mr. Doob's Hypnotoque effects in Ribbet's Sandbox. I no longer remember which of my photos I started with...;-)
Work crews at the Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall station work with Metropolitan Transportation Authority - MTA NYCT Subway R-53 C255 (Fuji Heavy Industries, 1T Crane Car, 1979) to remove an old a piece of rail from Track 1 prior to replacement.
Sunday Sixday. While out to ride the Metropolitan Transportation Authority - MTA NYCT Subway/New York Transit Museum Holiday Train "Nostalgia Special" on Sunday, December 11, 2022, a visit to the Lexington Avenue Line was convenient to check out the rail replacement project around the Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall Loop. Due to this weekend work, these trains would be turning at Bowling Green instead, giving an opportunity to see these R-62As in a few stations that they do not normally visit. This "Contract One" section of the original Interborough Rapid Transit (IRT now A Division) is heavily utilized, and regular preventative maintenance with planned detours helps ensure that there will not be unplanned service disruptions.

A Fiery Sunset in the Mexican Caribbean. Love that it looks like fireworks are shooting off from behind the clouds. Was so much fun shooting these sunsets and sunrises. Each one was so different and unique in it's own way. Could never get sick of shooting scenes like this. Six days was just not enough :)

My father on Conduit Rd. Near Washington DC in 1939. Charles co-founded TOSRV with his son Greg in 1962. His bike was a Drysdale, made in Brooklyn NY.
At the start of the year many international top cyclists traditionally compete for six days at the cycling track in Ahoy, Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Six days of fierce cycling in the madison (relay cycling), behind the derny and on the sprint. Absolute top level sports. But also a nice and enthusiastic ambiance. So, a really unique cycling event.
The Six Days has a rich history. The event in Rotterdam was first organized in 1936 and 1937 on a track that, following the failure of the six-day event in Amsterdam, was transferred from the Amsterdam old RAI to the Nenyto building in Rotterdam. Jan Pijnenburg and Cor Wals won this first edition. After that there was no longer a six-day event until Amsterdam would organize another six-day event until 1966. Rotterdam remained sceptical on till the Six Days returned to Rotterdam in 1968. And it enjoyed great fame in the 70s and 80s. However, no competition has been organized since 1988.
Sixteen years later, on January 6th, 2005, the event was restored. Frank Boelé, who was also the organizer of the six day event in Amsterdam, contributed to the organization. In 2018, the race management came into the hands of Michael Zijlaard and former Six-Day competitor Peter Schep. The event gained extra lustre in 2005 with the farewell gala of the well-known Dutch professional cyclist Leontien Zijlaard-van Moorsel.
The track record of this 200-meter track was set at 9,852 seconds on January 7, 2020 by Harrie Lavreysen. He got a standing ovation. I actually got goose bumps when I saw the crowd cheering him on and shouting him to the finish.
Nice little fact to know: I mentioned the “madison” (in Dutch “koppelkoers”) in this blog. This name actually derives from the first Six Days in 1899 at the Madison Square Garden in New York. Then they rode with a duo or a trio for 6 days, 24 hours a day. One of the team members always had to be in the track. Since the 1960s this has been reduced to four to five hours per evening. The Madison is still the most important part of the Six Days.
Technical stuff
This is a panoramic photo consisting of 7 individual photos shot in row short burst; handheld. I used 32000 ISO, f3.6, ranging 1/80 to 1/150, -2/3 and at 18 mils.
The initial panoramic merge was done using PS CC. This resulted into an almost flawless image. There was little to be done with regards to structural repairs. Further post-production primarily included balancing the lighting circumstances and the colour toning. Next to that I used the RAW-converter filter for clarity, the highlighting, a tighter sharpening and noise reductions. The Fujifilm has a APS-C sensor, and even thought it works amazingly in low lighting, I thought the image needed a little umph. Finally, I added a copyright sign (in PS). The latter is, alas, there to stay due to the fact that my photos were frequently copied. So, don't bother commenting on that.
The original pano is 1,2 GB at 11881 x 6838 pixels (including crop). I resized it for publication on Flickr.

The Six Days of Flanders-Ghent is a cycling event, organized in November, on the Kuipke cycling track in the Citadel Park in the Belgian city of Ghent.
The winners of the Six Days of Ghent include great "six-day kings" such as Rik Van Steenbergen, Peter Post, René Pijnen and Patrick Sercu, often linked to top cyclists of the moment such as Rik Van Looy, Eddy Merckx and Roger De Vlaeminck, who also act as crowd pullers. for the six-day event. Patrick Sercu is the record holder in Ghent in terms of the number of final victories, he takes the crown with 11 victories.
