Linnet (Carduelis cannabina). This young Linnet took time to pose for me at Stodmarsh in Kent on a sunny, warm morning towards the end of spring.
Eastern Maine Railway Train 505-28, heads back to the mill at Woodland on 7/28/2025.
Green power on the Woodland job has been a rare occurrence over the years, but for much of the summer GP40-2's 3028 and 3095 were used on the job.
Lately very little outbound traffic is being shipped, due to a number of factors such as low product demand, the overall global markets and the current tariff situation, which has impacted the procurement of pulping chemicals from Quebec as well as a large portion of the mills round wood supply from New Brunswick.

This is another view of the huge tree I posted last week from the gardens of the Cummer Museum! Some of the limbs are so old, so heavy, that supports were built for them!
Happy TREE-mendous Tuesday!

It's hard to describe the Cicada situation. There are so many you can't walk outside without them flying into you, covering everything and making deafening noise. They are amazing!

Nothing like wading uphill through wet blackberry as the train approaches.

there's a fine line between being fine
and acting like nothing happened
is your heart even breakable
seems like it didn't break at all
and it hardly seems to bother you
that we've hardly even spoke at all
and it's killing me.

Had the location cleared of tree limbs with the light window and train coinciding at the right time and CSX had to add two Gevos to J767's standard cab consist while in Queensgate. CSX's power situation lately has me pondering taking up a new hobby.

A cinque mesi dal terremoto in Abruzzo c'e' molta gente che non ha ancora una casa e neanche la speranza di averne una prima che sopraggiunga il rigido inverno aquilano.

Five months after the earthquake in the Abruzzo region (Italy) which killed over 300 people, injured 1600 people and left with no house 65.000 people, there are still a lot people which do not have an accomodation (house) and neither a hope to have one before the cold Abruzzo winter (the region struck by the earthquake is one of the coldest in Italy). Prime minister Berlusconi preferred to favour the construction of new houses outside the towns which will house only 15.000 instead of the reconstruction of old buildings. There is no certainty on when these new houses will be completed. To do so 30.000 people have been forced to live in camps inside tends suffering the hot summer months for 5 months. Up to now the new houses have not been completed yet, the reconstruction of buildings has not even started and campsites have been started to be dismantled because of the approaching winter. Some people will be relocated in close hotels (especially the one with childrens) but most of them will be relocated far from their native land. People wants to reconstruct their land but the government will not let them do just because Berlusconi want to show off its supposedly great skills in facing the emergency just like in the occasion of the G8 summit (btw yesterday he proclaimed himself the best prime minister Italy ever had in 150 years). Of course since the 90% of media in Italy is controlled by Berlusconi people in Italy will never know anything about this reality. They see only what the government want them to see. Fortunately there are journals (the same journals heavily criticized in these days by Berlusconi) which from time to time update people about this situation. However only a few minority of people have idea of what it is going on.

What if you have the wires, a socket but no plug?
In another hotel we found a socket and light switch right underneath the shower...
It's a little late, but here's a recreation of that iconic Bin-Laden-is-dead situation room shot.
I like to imagine that Obama was wearing orange sunglasses when he got the news.
I felt bad about her wig situation so I decided Haru could be the first of my girls to come down to the pond with me.
We had a few close calls. One of her shoes almost fell into the water, and her wig slid a few times.
But it was a lot of fun! It's such a beautiful place!
We always find ourselves in situations that look really great but do we see the potential harm it may do us? I always see the harm before the beauty, it's neither here nor there it just is. No matter how sharp the situation may look I always try to see the green newness and potential for growth.

Hopi Indian Chief White Eagle commented on the current situation:
“This moment humanity is experiencing can be seen as a door or a hole.” The decision to fall in the hole or walk through the door is up to you. If you consume the news 24 hours a day, with negative energy, constantly nervous, with pessimism, you will fall into this hole, but if you take the opportunity to look at yourself, to rethink life and death, to take care of yourself and others, then you will walk through the portal.
Take care of your home. Take care of your body. Connect with your spiritual home. When you take care of yourself, you take care of everyone at the same time.
Do not underestimate the spiritual dimension of this crisis. Take the perspective of an eagle that sees everything from above with a broader view. There is a social question in this crisis, but also a spiritual question. The two go hand in hand. Without the social dimension, we fall into fanaticism. Without the spiritual dimension, we fall into pessimism and futility.
Are you ready to face this crisis? Grab your toolbox and use all the tools at your disposal.
Learn resistance from the example of Indian and African peoples: we have been and are exterminated, but we never stopped singing, dancing, lighting a fire, and rejoicing.
Don’t feel guilty for feeling blessed in these troubled times. Being sad or angry doesn’t help at all. Resistance is resistance through joy!
You have the right to be strong and positive. And there’s no other way to do it than to maintain a beautiful, happy, bright posture. This has nothing to do with alienation (ignorance of the world). It’s a resistance strategy. When we cross the threshold, we have a new worldview because we face our fears and difficulties. This is all you can do now:
– Serenity in the storm
– Keep calm, pray every day
– Make a habit of meeting the sacred every day.– Show resistance through art, joy, trust, and love.
