Yesterday Sinterklaas and his helper Piet arrived in The Netherlands. This morning they made a boat tour through the Amsterdam canals and were welcomed by thousands of excited kids (and their parents).

Sinterklaas, accompanied by his servant Zwarte Piet, is a traditional Winter holiday figure who brings gifts for the children. He is still celebrated today in the Low Countries, including the Netherlands and Belgium. He is also well known in territories of the former Dutch Empire, including South Africa, Suriname, and Indonesia. He is one of the main sources of the holiday figure of Santa Claus.
Sinterklaas traditionally arrives in the Netherlands each year in mid-November by steamboat from Spain.
These photos are from his arrival in Kijkduin (The Hague). The crowd is there to meet and greet him. Many children are dressed like Sinterklaas or Zwarte Piet. It's a colourful happening in more than one sense! It's good to see that Sinterklaas brings together children and parents of all colours.

Return of the Sinterklaas candy in the stores. Sinterklaas is a Dutch holiday, celebrated on the 5th of December. Sinterklaas is the basis for the figure of Santa Claus.
The candy we eat at Sinterklaas is already in store in September/October.
De 1119 is de tweede Sinterklaasbus van 2012. Hij zal gebruikt worden om pakjes te brengen naar diverse ziekenhuizen maar zal ook zo in de gewone dienst rijden. Prins Hendrikkade, 18-11-2012. Het is de eerste keer dat een Citea voor dit doel gebruikt wordt.
Lukasz had been in Lodz for about a month to " recover" from the wedding, and now it was the 5th of December. A perfect opportunity to organize an evening to celebrate Sinterklaas. Eric and Alexander welcomed us in their beautiful home in Amsterdam. Thier neigbour showed up as Sinterklaas, dressed up very originaly.
