Macro Mondays - Souvenir

Souvenir from Estonia. Made my head spin and funny things happen. Never again.

Sadly, this is not possible for us under the current COVID restrictions, but fortunately doesn't affect Brian and his friends celebrating with a dram of Talisker single malt whisky (they love the peaty quality). They don't get drunk as such, but must be mindful that they don't upset their osmotic balance too much...

I really am trying to get snails out of my system...

No snails were harmed in the making of this photograph.

Went on my own to Eucher Trails, on my way back half of my water bottle was froozen. I had a taste of Glenlivet Scotch, I could feel the afterburn. I had to wait untill the night to have one.

Really getting frustrated with my aging camera, auto-focus do not work on the wide angle lens, there is ugly noise in the shadow.

The river is now cover by ice, there was lot of people going fishing, there is event a guy in front of you next to the crack with his little shack, hart to see on this shot...but his there, I could see him with my 200mm. The biggest challenge there is to show how much it falls just there, I think I need to work this out a bit.

Slainte!

coastal view, isle of mull 2019

Rain, rain, and more rain, but a productive day painting inside. A fire now, and a Laphroaig to ease the evening chill, even though Summer is only 5 days away.

We visited Neist Point Lighthouse on the Isle of Skye right at midday — usually not the perfect time for photography. But this time, it didn’t matter; the sky was beautifully overcast, creating soft and even light. With the drone, a completely different perspective opened up — and I really liked this one. It was quite windy, yet that very wind made the landscape feel even more alive and powerful. Scotland, just the way I love it.

During the crossing from Oban to the Isle of Mull, the ferry had to face strong, icy winds and heavy showers of freezing rain. The weather was rough and uncomfortable, yet also strangely fascinating. After this challenging journey, we were rewarded with a breathtaking view of Duart Castle, standing proudly on the rugged coastline. It was a truly magnificent moment – feeling the power of nature while witnessing such a dramatic and beautiful landscape.

I love this weather

After an early morning hike to this breathtaking viewpoint, we found ourself completely alone in the vast landscape. Strong gusts of wind swept across the cliffs as we took in the majestic sight of the Old Man of Storr — a natural wonder that leaves a lasting impression. Standing there, feeling small yet grounded and content, we took a quiet moment to enjoy a fine malt whisky.

Captured as a panoramic image, this scene conveys the full depth and intensity of the experience.

Irish Whiskey. The last distillery in Northern Ireland.

It was an incredibly beautiful road trip along the west coast of Scotland, filled with amazing impressions and wonderful people we met along the way. One of our highlights was the Isle of Mull – a truly stunning corner of the world. This photo, taken in March, shows leafless, solitary trees set against the backdrop of the typical Scottish landscape – an absolute must to capture with the camera. Our next adventure to the north coast of Scotland is already in the works.

While exploring the Isle of Skye, a visit to the lighthouse at Neist Point was high on our “must-see” list. From a distance, I tried capturing the scene with the drone — in this shot, you can clearly see the winding footpath leading to the lighthouse. The view out over the vast Atlantic carried a special kind of atmosphere — raw, calm, and endlessly captivating.

Captured in Campbeltown, near the windswept Mull of Kintyre — this view from Southend Beach looks toward a small cluster of houses, nestled just slightly sheltered from the Atlantic’s relentless force. On that stormy day, the wind howled like an ancient song, and the sea crashed with untamed power — a breathtaking display of nature’s raw beauty. Later, as dusk fell, warmth returned by the fireside, the storm fading beyond the walls, and a smooth Single Malt in hand.

After a rough and stormy crossing from Oban to the Isle of Mull — with fierce gusts of wind, sleet, and a restless sea — the weather finally showed mercy. Just before reaching the island, the clouds broke open and the sun appeared right on cue, casting a golden light over Duart Castle. The cold, aching hands from taking photos were quickly forgotten in that moment. Ahead lay a few days on the beautiful Isle of Mull — the road to Tobermory, a cozy stay, and a visit to the whisky distillery of the same name. It all sounded just perfect.

The Isle of Mull, located off Scotland’s west coast, boasts stunning landscapes and picturesque sights.

A wonderful isle I want to visit once again

On board the ferry from Brodick to Ardrossan. The cold wind howls across the deck, waves crash against the hull and dark clouds loom over the choppy sea. The ferry rocks gently to the rhythm of the stormy waters, capturing the rugged beauty of Scotland's coastal wilderness.

visiting the isle of mull, one of our highligts some years ago. and sometimes it has to be wet, windy and foggy, a fantastic time there.

At a lonely, deserted crossroads, this small bus stop appeared — a quiet, unexpected subject set against the mist-draped mountains of the Isle of Mull. The wet road gleamed with soft reflections, and the muted tones of the landscape made it a beautifully fleeting moment worth capturing.

On the outer deck of the ferry from Oban to Craignure, battling strong winds and rough seas. In the background, two vibrant rainbows arc across the stormy sky, adding a breathtaking contrast to the waves. A spectacular crossing, full of raw beauty and dramatic scenery.
