I just recently aquired a really nice, vintage Besson Cornet - Details as follows:

On receipt I gave it a really good CLA (I managed to get the seized 3rd valve bottom cap off). It is now playing fairly well with good tuning.
If I am feeling wealthy later in the year I might get it professionally serviced to get it playing the best it can and sort out that dent in the bell.

An authentic Besson & Co. Brevet cornet, manufactured around 1911 (serial number 85515). Renowned for their craftsmanship and rich tonal quality, Besson Class A instruments of this era were designed for professional use and have become highly sought after by collectors and players alike.
The last owner purchased it from a lady in Yorkshire whose grandfather played this instrument, she said initially in the Halifax Fire Brigade band then after the war Mexborough Fire Brigade band. The last owner bought it to play the Last Post at Newcastle Emlyn Remembrance service on 10 November 2024. That was its most recent outing.
The instrument is in good condition, with all components functional. The bell has a couple of dents (does not affect playability).

Instrument: Good condition, with couple of small dents in the bell and minor wear from age.
Case: Structurally intact but in poor cosmetic condition. Retains original clasp and internal compartments.
Accessories: All items are vintage, functional, and rare, significantly enhancing the set’s value.

The big air-cooled mouthpieces are bonkers and too much for the horn but they work nicely on my flugel horn!
Out of all the mouthpieces I think the beaten up Hawkes 1 model (5) and Sally Army No. 1 play the best... I guess that is why they are the most beaten up!

This yacht was actually sailed by a single man, and although his genoa was rolled away poorly, I was impressed at his ability to anchor single handed
My finished queen size Single Girl Quilt. This was the first quilt I've ever made and there were a few moments over the 7 months I spent on this baby when I thought I had certainly destroyed it and there was no way it'd come together, but alas, it did. I went with the straight line quilting because it seemed the easiest. The quilting is wonky at parts but I'll chalk that up to a first effort.

Had a little 2.5 mile walk today in light rain.
Wanted to test my new 'waterproof' trousers!
Happy to report they worked!!
It was on the superb 'close to edge' Winnats Pass high level walk. Not far in distance but very had work going up the hillsides!!
Plus had a coffee (needed!) up just above that tree.
Great to get out in the fresh air even in light rain!!

At the end of an exhausting day to prepare our experimental setup on our wind turbine in Winterthur, we decided to take a break, we flew our drone and took a couple of pictures from the sky. All the gears, computers, electronics and boxes are still lying on the ground. We have not started packing anything yet, but we have equipped one blade with pressure sensors, accelerometers, microphones, and the nacelle and base of the wind turbine have been instrumented too. For now, the wind turbine is still idle. Soon it will rotate again, and we will have our first aerodynamic measurements on the blade.
Queen's Day celebrates the birthday of the Queen of the Netherlands and is supposed to be a day of national unity and "togetherness". Queen's Day is known for its "freemarket" all over the country, where everybody is allowed to sell things in the streets.
During the celebrations as reference to the colours of the House of Orange-Nassau, people dress in the colour orange, which is sometimes called "orange craze"

I noticed a set of cobwebs at home that must have been spun by a very single minded spider.
I decided to get a quick pic before reaching for the hoover.
I love night photography. I wish I were better at it, but getting into strobing is definitely going to help. I hadn't done much of it lately because of the lighting issues (not having a working strobe, other than one that only fires handheld)
The winter is a grand opportunity to get some good night shots because of the sun setting at 4:30 ish (which I absolutely hate, I never have any daylight photo opportunities anymore), but I guess you just gotta make the best of what you got.
The picture? Me standing on the street, single strobe fired by Casey. The result of several attempts to get a shot of me scootering, then giving up and going for a totally posed shot. However, I'm somewhat satisfied given the amount of effort put forth.

Lowestoft single deck tram, fleet number unknown at the East Anglia Transport Museum, Carlton Colville, Lowestoft. Wednesday 22 August 2012.
This Lowestoft single deck tram was built by G.F. Milnes in 1903 for the 3ft 6in gauge tramway operated by Lowestoft Corporation Tramways. It was withdrawn in May 1931 when the tramway system closed. The body became a bungalow until it was acquired for preservation in 1990. The identity of the tram is unknown (fleet nos. series 21 – 24) and it is currently used as a static museum. Hopefully in due course it will be restored as a fully working tram.
