I spent a couple nights at a lovely waterfront Airbnb in this charming south Florida town and the best part (for me anyway!) was that it was a three minute walk to the Route 1 bridge and one of the top photo locations on the Florida East Coast Railway mainline. So reprising what I did the prior morning I was back up here for a couple more takes on Sinday morning before we walked for bloody marys and brunch.
Only eight minutes behind BLF 722 came FEC train 101, a jack of all trades Bowden to Hialeah run across the length of the railroad with intermodal, manifest and aggregate hoppers. The monster train is led by LNG powered GE ES44ACs 815 and 820 built in Nov. and Dec. 2014 respectively and spliced by their custom LNG fuel tank car. Originally diesel powered the entire 24 unit GE fleet was retrofitted to run on LNG as detailed in this article: files.chartindustries.com/FEC-LNG-FloridaEastCoastRailway... Originally delivered in the gorgeous heritage 'Champion' paint, both have just recently been repainted into the garish Grupo Mexico designed livery reflecting the 2017 purchase of the railroad by the Mexican Conglomerate when the freight franchise was spun off by parent Florida East Coast Industries (which continues to own Brightline). As of the present there remain 11 out of 24 units still in Champion paint, though five of those were offline in Mexico working on sister road FXE but are enroute back to home rails.
This famous view looking down from the Roosevelt Bridge which carries US Route 1 over the St. Lucie River is a signature FEC location. The more than thousand foot long trestle has a bascule span with a 50 ft wide channel that has become a major issue since Brightline service has resulted in a tripling of the daily train crossings and a disruption to the substantial marine traffic. Additionally the bridge which sits at about MP 260.9 on FEC's Flagler Sub mainline is the last remaining single track segment between Cocoa and Miami following the complete rebuilt in advance of Brightline's northward expansion.
Funding has been allocated for the bridge's replacement in the coming years so get your shots now.

I SAW THIS BEAUTIFUL TREE WITH BEAUTIFUL ARRAY OF COLORS.
I ASKED THE SELLER WHAT THE NAME OF THE TREE WAS BUT HE DID NOT KNOW. THE TREE HAD SO MANY BEAUTIFUL COLORED LEAVES. .Last Sinday, the tree was gone. It was sold

2017 built Siemens SCB-40 BLF 104 leads train 722with five cars and an unidentified sister unit on the rear as the first daily southbound departure from Orlando which left at 06:50. BLF service over this stretch of track is a bit over a year old now having only started revenue runs north from West Palm Beach in September of 2023 using FEC tracks as far as Cocoa then a 40 mile entirely new build line west to Orlando International Airport.
While these trains are rather garish in appearance and I don't particularly love the look of Siemens Chargers that are quickly coming to dominate North American passenger operations, I'm fascinated with the business model and would love to learn more from insiders. South Florida Business Journal reported that Brightline lost $493 million in the first nine months of 2024 yet continues to buy more trainsets and is pursuing an expansion to Tampa, not to mention their Brightline West project between Los Angeles and Las Vegas....
Are they visionaries or fools? I certainly don't know the answer, but the optimist in me who loves this industry surely hopes it's the former. It truly is rather astonishing that a private business is consciously investing capital in intercity passenger railroading, something that hasn't happened in America since the mid 1950s. It is even more interesting given that the FEC was one of the earliest Class 1s to exit the passenger business in 1963 (though a bare bones state mandated service was reinstated in 1965 and ran for three years) at the start of its 14 yr long strike.
To learn more about this new Brightline expansion here's the official press release: www.gobrightline.com/press-room/2023/brightline-history-b...
And here's a good article on the first year of service and upcoming changes from the folks at Trains Magazine:

I was trawling through some old family photographs and came across this one of my great grandmother. Don't we look alike?
Seems she did a little film work back in the day although she never made it big.
And if you believe all that waffle I have an amazing business idea that needs funding :-)
Well it is sinday so why not titillate my fans xxxx
Soon be Monday :-(
Well kind of casual, but very enjoyable in satin and leather. Certainly less demure than yesterdays offering
Step out of the light and into temptation…
SINFUL SINDAY @ FARLEY’S PUB
10AM – 12PM: DJ SPIRIT
12PM – 2PM: DJ FARLEY & Host MAZIKEEN
Whiskey heat. Wicked beats. Shadows that kiss the floor.
Your innocence won’t survive the night — and neither should your halo.
Temptation tastes better on Sundays.
Dress to sin. Dance to fall.
We’ll be waiting in the dark.

A final trip to Sussex Prairie Gardens before it closes for the season on Sinday.
Looking down at the pond I was mystified by a rainbow effect, then I realised it was a reflection! Looking up, this patch of ?sundog ?halo was close to the sun, which I was careful not to look at or point the camera at directly (just to the right of the frame here).
Any help with identification? Certainly not as far away from the sun as I would expect for a sundog.
My other possible for the day is in my photostream

C W Bacon (1905 - 1992) was probably, in the 1940s and '50s, one fo the most 'seen' and recognisable artists and illustrators in the UK - if only as his work was much commissioned by the BBC for inclusion in the weekly Radio Times. Indeed, all the illustrations in this three page article by R P Gossop from the March 1949 Art & Industry are lifted from Radio Times.
CWB, like his contemporary Eric Fraser, also undertook book illustrations and advertising commissions and his trademark style was much in demand particularly in the days of black and white printing where such stark, bold and geometric images woudl reproduce in bold form. As Gossop notes C W Bacon's lettering are usually a considered part of his design and work.

Post one today . . . I'll place in Sliders Sunday, though the sliding is more or less just the addition of the double vignette--my new addiction I probably overuse. Thanks for Viewing. HSS!!

My home base is Madison, WI
Day to day I work as A baker and catering coordinator
If I didn't do this I would Be a teacher or some other job that has the summer off
Next year I will travel to Hopefully, more places than I travel to this year
To me Sunday means Not working for pay and doing things that I love
And I like to eat Long, leisurely breakfasts
And I will get out of bed Preferably not until 8 but sleeping in is hard for me
And get dressed around When I want to leave the house
And I will smile about The fact that I have time to garden, read, cook great food for my family AND take a nap!
And I just may daydream about Retiring early
And when Monday comes I will dream of next Sunday
And this would be the soundtrack.
