And it feels so much lighter, now I’ve met you

And honey you should know, that I could never go on without you

Since the bridge, this location has seen a significant downturn in trade and passengers by boat. steeped in history its worth a visit if you are spending any time on Skye.

Since some people (from the USA) didn't think they had Queen Anne's Lace where they live, I thought I should put up a photo of what it looks like when it is open, because I am pretty sure everybody in North America has this flower, unless it is too high up in the mountains or too desert-like.

So here are some Queen Anne's Lace growing through a fence... a somewhat unusual shot because usually this flower blankets the fields at waist height. So it is unusual to see one or two plants by themselves. (The lawnmower decided that....)

It was evening, and the late light was just barely hitting them!

There is a second railroad in the Pittston area that interchanges with the RBMN. In business since 1994 the Luzerne and Susquehanna operates 60 miles of assorted bits of cast of scraps of once important class 1 routes that once served the Scranton Wilkes-Barre area. The valley was placed with a nearly incomprehensible web of rails at one time that generated carloads and revenue to boggle the mind. But now so little remains and what does is but a shadow of itself. In fact the trackage beneath this unit that sits stationary, blue flagged, and tied down was once the LV's mainline into Wilkes-Barre.

LS 1751 itself is an EMD GP9 blt. Oct. 1959 ad Pennsylvania Railroad 7242. The venerable geep is now the property of RJ Corman Railroad group which bought the L&S in August 2020. One wonders if 1751 will survive and trade her somber LS black for brilliant Corman crimson. I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

Since this might be my last post of 2018... I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all my Flickr friends and followers for all your support this year!

This has been quite a crazy year for me... one of the most hectic years of my life! But it's also been a very decisive year... and I've made a number of radical decisions which have changed (and improved) my life considerably. I haven't felt stressed or angry with anyone in at least 2 months now... and that can only ever be a good thing! I have a challenging new project and a clear plan for next year... and so far... everything is fitting into place perfectly! I can't remember when last I've been so excited to start a new year!

So here's wishing you all a very enjoyable last few days of the year... and a very prosperous and happy 2019!

Cheers everyone.

Since my Perseids 2025 session was a total failure, I attach an image from the Perseids 2023 session (the most successful for me). This is a single frame from a series of 100 that I took on the "peak" night of the Perseids 2023, a frame that I find interesting because of the 2 satellites intersected by a meteor near Andromeda galaxy.

Equipment used: Skywatcher Star Adventure GTI, Nikon D610 (astro-modified) and Rokinon 135mm.

Settings: F2.8, ISO 1000, 45 sec.

I still have the raw file :)

Since today is #tbt here is one from my beginner years that my brother asked about last night. I found it in a data card and reprocessed it to order a metal print for him. I still love this shot and recall the morning I took it, as I was the only one at the lake and had the area to myself. What a gift. #ThrowbackThursday

Since I consider myself somewhat of an expert on Snowy Egrets and Utqiaġvik is known for its population of Snowy Owls, I felt quite confident there would be opportunity during my recent visit to the Arctic to profit from such synergy. But apparently Snowy Egrets and Snowy Owls don't share as much in common as I had anticipated. Of the two birds I spotted, the closest I got was this heavily cropped, distant view while kneeling under a low-hung pipeline.

Since the weather was so nice today, I decided to take a walk to the back of the tree nursery I currently live on. I was half way to the back and got a low battery warning on my camera! The warm weather made me a little lazy so I took my small camera. On the way back to my house I got off a couple of more shots and this is one of them. I was amazed at the quality for such a small camera - especially at noon with bright sunlight - which I usually never take photos at this time of day.

There are at least 5 or more different types of trees in this photo - the very large Walnut tree on the right is just starting to get leaves. L A R G E

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything on here so I hope you’re all doing well! Haven’t really been doing much with the camera lately as this time of year really doesn’t appeal to me that much. Also, I’ve recently invested in a drone, so I’ve been learning the whole video side of things.

Anyways, last night I headed out to an old favourite location of mine in the Yorkshire Dales called Twistleton Scar. For anyone that isn’t familiar, its a great little spot covered in limestone rocks; perfect for landscape photography! It’s a quiet spot too which comes as an added bonus!

The forecast was looking pretty promising so I decided to try a shot I’ve taken before but want to improve slightly. When I arrived on location, I had a bit of a gut feeling to go off and find something new and thankfully, I followed that instinct. Had to wander around for a while to find something that worked but I came across this rather interesting looking tree that worked well with another tree in the background. After tweaking myself and my tripod into some awkward positions to get the composition right, it was just a matter of praying and waiting for the light to make an appearance. After about half an hour, the sun managed to come out through a small gap on the horizon which completely changed the landscape into something you’d imagine to see in a dream!

I’ve certainly missed the feeling you get when everything comes together and you get a shot you’re happy with! Hopefully, you’ll be seeing more frequent posts from me over the next few weeks/months!

Ever since I caught a refraction of a sun pillar, I've been wanting to photograph a refraction of sunbeams. So when some appeared from this break in the clouds, I rushed to take some pics. They soon went, and I think I prefer the later one, without sunbeams, shown below. (Sorry -- it is occasionally not available -- not sure why.)

Since Bunkyo Civic Centre was closed, a last minute decision to head to the i-link Town Observatory in Ichikawa turned out incredibly well with clear skies for the evening and the setting sun intersecting Tokyo Skytree from this viewpoint.

The vantage point from this observatory offers panoramic views of both Mt Fuji and different landmarks in Tokyo - you can see the silhouettes of Yoyogi Tower and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in this frame (along with a few other iconic buildings as well).

We reached the observation deck early and managed to secure a good corner spot to frame our shots before the evening crowd came in. As it was a clear day, we had many local photographers joining us as well, and they all seem to have planned for this shot too - many of them wielding dual camera setups to avoid missing a key moment.

Despite being an enclosed area, it was still cold and windy as the roof allowed wind from the outside to pass through, so keeping our setups stable especially with long lenses was problematic. It was still worth all the trouble though, for this angle that we didn't plan for!

Since 1066, Westminster Abbey has been the location of the coronations of 40 English and British monarchs and a burial site for 18 English, Scottish, and British monarchs. At least 16 royal weddings have taken place at the abbey since 1100.

This abbey, known to millions of people around the world, is formally titled the Collegiate Church of Saint Peter at Westminster, an Anglican church in the City of Westminster, London, England.

Since, India-Romeo became "Vatnajökull" and emerged with the assorted special livery in May 2017.

Since a few months ago, both FXE and FSRR landed in an extreme power shortage due to a massive increase in traffic, the solution on FSRR's side was to start using their DC locomotives on road train, both 6 and 4 axle Dash 7's, and that for sure has been a massive treat to us!

Here, a trio of 6 axle are on notch 8 as they pull an empty Autorack train from Veracruz ports to Mexico City as they pass the north end of the Acultzingo siding, smoking like god intended.

Frigorífico Anglo del Uruguay

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Frigorífico Anglo del Uruguay was a meatpacking plant located at Fray Bentos, Uruguay, on the Uruguay River bank.

In 1924, the Vestey group purchases the old installations of Liebig Extract of Meat Company and the production goes on under a new name.

During its peak period, El Anglo had 5,000 workers whose ranks included English, Belgians, Russians, Spanish and Italians. It finally closed in 1979 after Europe and the United States had cut back their purchases from Latin America. Small brick houses with thick walls running along the river's edge in Fray Bentos form the "Barrio Anglo," a city-within-a-city where meatpacking workers lived that featured a hospital, a school, a social club and a football squad.[1]

Ever since I saw some of maxxsmart pictures of the Golden Gate bridge, I've wanted to view this scene for myself. Last December, I ran into rootswalker and markarlilly while shooting the bay bridge. I soon learned that they were both obsessed with capturing the Golden Gate bridge with low fog. I asked them to let me know of any possible low fog events in the bay area in the future. Because of my day job, It would be possible for me to get there for sunrise if they let me know by early evening the day before. Well Matt messaged me early Thursday afternoon and let me know that Friday morning could see some low fog... I looked at the forcasts, saw the high pressure building off of the coast, found a car rental for $20 an decided to take the chance. Watching the fog move in and cover the bay was probably one of the coolest natural phenomenons I've seen.. Also got to meet up with my fellow long time flickr contact Jeff Swanson -- www.interfacingnature.com ... Thanks Matt for the heads up!

Timex has exceeded all of my expectations with this contemporary release! This is one of the highest quality pieces in this price range and a little above. 42mm stainless steel case with circular brushing on top of the lugs and a polished stepped bezel. Crisp chamfered edge next to horizontal brushing on the side of the case and a signed crown. The panda dial is light grey with quality print, indiglo and a black seconds sub dail is above the 6. Supple 20mm black leather strap with grey stitching and a signed buckle. No traditional loud ticking quartz movement here. $54 well spent.

It has been nearly a year since my last visit down to Kirby Cove for sunrise. Not being able to sleep I opted to get up early and head towards the headlands. When I left low fog was gracing the Golden Gate Bridge with both towers sticking above the fog. I was keeping my fingers crossed to finally capture that elusive low fog with burning sky sunrise scene. To my dismay the fog decided to retreat and disappear minutes after my departure.

Despite the receding of fog the leading edge of a cloud front made landfall and was primed to explode in burning colors. I initially started at Battery Spencer and was shocked to see the parking lot completely packed by 6am. With the fog sitting just off the coast I was worried it would make another inland push and hence I started off at the classical Battery Spencer viewpoint.

Again I was surprised to see so many photographers setup. There must have been >50 photographers all lined up waiting for sunrise. I snapped off a few frames but I just couldn’t quite sit still having to jostle for space. As blue hour was reaching its peak, Alan and I decided at the last minute to make a bolt for Kirby Cove. Not wanting to miss any of the sky burn we literally sprinted down the trail. Photo backpacks and rain boots are not the ideal combo for running but we made do and miraculously made it all the way down in 10 minutes.

Down at Kirby Cove, there was not a single other photographer as Alan and I had the entire beach to ourselves. Better yet, the “treasure chest” lay at the center of the beach and was easily engulfed by the rising tides. A few minutes later the sky began burning. Although the burn never reached full potential the colors and reflected light was still a gem to witness.

Since it’s (was) your birthday, my dear Linda, here’s the mush pack. I cannot tell you how grateful I am for this friendship and the safe space you’ve offered me to be myself. Your support and love means the world to me. You’re hardworking, kind, thoughtful, you wear your heart on your sleeve… I could go on really. But I’ll conclude with yet another thanks for you being you, always and unapologetically. Love ya hun ♥️

The semicircular waterfall at the heart of this site is some 80 m high and 2,700 m in diameter and is situated on a basaltic line spanning the border between Argentina and Brazil. Made up of many cascades producing vast sprays of water, it is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world. The surrounding subtropical rainforest has over 2,000 species of vascular plants and is home to the typical wildlife of the region: tapirs, giant anteaters, howler monkeys, ocelots, jaguars and caymans.

"Since Iris is the Greek goddess for the Messenger of Love, her sacred flower is considered the symbol of communication and messages. Greek men would often plant an iris on the graves of their beloved women as a tribute to the goddess Iris, whose duty it was to take the souls of women to the Elysian fields."

The State Fair of Texas is an annual state fair held in Dallas at historic Fair Park. The fair has taken place every year since 1886 except for varying periods during World War I and World War II. It usually begins the last Friday in September and ends 24 days later. The fair claims an annual attendance of over two million visitors through ticket scanning. The State Fair of Texas is considered one of the best in America as well as Dallas' signature event despite its troubled history.

Seen above is the Midway Entrance which puts you right into the Midway, the Kidway, and the Funway. Also found in this area is the Children's Museum, Neon Tex (photograph featured earlier in my photostream), and the Texas State Ferris Wheel (seen in the photograph above and also featured earlier in my photostream). Additionally, immediately adjacent to the Midway entrance is the famous Cotton Bowl Stadium (also previously featured in my photostream)...home of the Red River Rivalry, which is the centerpiece of the fair and the annual college football game between the Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners.

Three bracketed photos were taken with a handheld Nikon D7200 and combined with Photomatix Pro to create this HDR image. Additional adjustments were made in Photoshop CS6.

Since this will probably be my last post of 2012 I have written a blog looking back on the year. I hope you check it out as I have reflected on my path as a photographer but also created a top 10 (very hard to do!) of the photos from my Flickr friends that have inspired me this year.

Looking forward to seeing the creativity from everyone in 2013!

Since I’m low on content, I’ll be doing a year review. Here’s CN G889 at Trimble, TN on 1/26/23.

Ever since I’ve been pursuing astrophotography, I’ve always wanted to take an all-night star trail image. The Winter solstice has always fascinated me, being the longest night of the year. How incredible it would be to make an all sky image on one of the longest nights of the year! Unfortunately, the weather in central Pennsylvania rarely cooperates to create such an image. On December 20, 2017, the evening sky was crystal clear and it was the day before the Winter solstice on December 21, 2017.

I set up my old Canon T2i and a Canon 8-15mm f/4L lens to capture as much of the sky as possible. Needing AC power to supply the camera all night, I had to set up in my heavily light polluted back yard. I used a homemade dew heater powered by four D cell batteries.

Away the camera went throughout the night recording the rising of the winter constellations as they arc around Polaris. I started the 30-second exposures shortly after 6 pm with the hopes of completing the sequence around 5:45 am the next morning. Despite a perfect forecast for clear skies, heavy cloud cover moved in at 4 am requiring me to cut the sequence short. I am still happy with result; it is fascinating to see the gentle arc of Polaris on this almost 10-hour exposure.

The 1080 images (Canon T2i, Canon 8-15 mm f/4L lens @ 8mm, ISO 400, f/4.5) were stacked using StarStax with final adjustments in Lightroom.
