This being the first time shooting a series in 4x5 I had some minor minor flaws in some exposures which forced me have to go back for a second shoot. I believe it's better that way. The first exposure I shot of this on the first trip I had loaded the sheet film in the holder crooked somehow. Once again though, this shot is better. I think mistakes are a blessing sometimes.

Based on recipe from pictorial planet (youtube video) - I ordered the chems and yesterday I did a session with a few of my prints

He helped me out the entire day. He has been bowling/working here since he was 15. He normally just sits in his dimly lit office and watches cable unless he is needed to fix the machine. He works 3-11 five days a week. He also wears Saucony Jazz which is the best shoe I ever have had. Besides every other shoe.

I don't have a car. My best friend, Tyler, was a saint enough to let me borrow his car. "Pete, don't lose this key". With all of my heart I responded, "Dude, no way". So I get to the bowling alley, met the owner, shot about 4 sheets and got ready to leave. I stick my hand in my pocket for my key to the car and I can't find it. Me, the owner, Erica, and the Janitor look for this key for the longest time. I had to stay an extra two hours till Jules could come drop a key off. Without losing that key I wouldn't have gotten some of the shots such as this one. It forced me to look a little harder around me. Two days later I called Erica to see if I could shoot again and she told me she had found them. Everything happens for a reason. I lose a key, I shoot more photographs.

I was outside when the neon sign lit up. 6:30pm. The "L" was buzzing. The sky was the darkest blue. The lightning flickered against the clouds and I wondered what it was striking. Then a man walked out and started smoking a cigarette. I didn't really know people bowled anymore.

The first exposure of this shot didn't work because I forgot to move MY backpack from off the table behind the bowling ball rack. I even recognized that it was there but got lost in composing/exposing and forgot. This is the reshoot. It's better.

Bubba was always so psyched when I focused on the ground glass. He whispered from underneath his mustache behind me while I took this, "Yeah, yeah, yeah, you're focusin' "

This is what was other the other side of those reeds.

Now, when you're shooting slide film, you've got to expose for the highlights and...

Well. Sod that. Expose for the beautiful colours in the sky and see what happens. I'd never have got the land and the water in anyway.

Sinar f2 4x5 camera in action in the studio yesterday.. at last! I bought my large format cameras last autumn but have only ever shot Polaroids (Fuji FP100C) or roll film (6x7). I waited a long time to buy developing kit for 4x5. i then bought my first 4x5 sheet film - Fomapan 100 and then more recently I had to wait to book a good model in the UK and wait til I was not away. Time to develop the film. So many oppotunities to screw up a photo doing large format film. It is as far away as you can get from an iPhone snap / P&S camera.

4x5 negative. 8x10 print. The old Meopta Magnitarus can take up to 5x7'' (13x18) negatives. It has not been used for decades, but in good shape. It does not have any filters so have ordered a set to control contrast better.
