Simplicity 9834; ©1971; Junior Petites' and Misses' Mini-Dress, Smock and Pants: The mini-dress V. 1 with high round neckline has back zipper and long set-in sleeves gathered with elastic casings. The top-stitched smock V. 1 and 2 gathered to lined yoke has low round neckline, front button closing and short set-in sleeves gathered to armholes. V. 1 has patch pockets made of dress fabric. V. 2 has patch pockets made of pants fabric. The pants V. 2 have back zipper and elastic waistline casing.

Misses' and Women's One-Piece Dress and Cape
The bodice front is styled with a center seam and darts in sunburst effect at waistline. There are center front and back seams in skirt and a sash ties in bow at side. The cape is fashioned with a continuous shoulder and side seam. Bands are attached at shoulder seam to hold cape in place. Style I has a high neckline with front-slit opening and long sleeves. Style II features a cap-type sleeve and V neckline. Style III has a high neck and cap-type sleeve.

Finished back length from base of neck to hem of Dress: 43"

Comments: Overall, I am really happy with the construction of the skirt. Everything came together easily. As this was a "Learn to Sew" pattern, the instructions were very clear and thorough. My first time inserting a lapped zipper (using this method) which took a while to get used to, but once I got the hang of it, it wasn't hard at all.
When I tried it on and looked in the mirror, I was quite happy with it. Unfortunately, when I turned to the side, the side view of the skirt was nearly as wide as the front view! Then I turned and checked out the back. OMG. It was only then that I realized having gathers on the BACK of the skirt is so very unflattering on me :(
Changes to Pattern: None. I was going to leave off the belt loops as I was feeling lazy, but I had cut out the fabric for the "carrier" anyway, not knowing what a "carrier" was until I got to the relevant part of the sewing instructions (yes, I can be a bit slow). They ended up being really easy and quick to sew anyway.

Misses' and Women's Dress.
The becomingly fashioned bodice is gathered at the shoulder seams and lower edges. The skirt joins the bodice front in pointed sections and is seamed in back at the natural waistline. Dress may be made with short sleeves or with long sleeves, graceful y gathered to a buttoned wristband.
For size 16, (34B, 28W, 37H), finished back length from base of neck to hem of dress is 43 inches. Width around lower edge of dress about 1.75 yards.

Style I--II:
slide fastener or snap fasteners, hooks and eyes; 4 buttons (25 lines -- 5/8" diam..); seam binding (optional); shoulder pads; matching thread (200 yds.); shields.
Style 1--2: buttons (25 lines--5/8" diam.); prong-type buckle.

"Simple to Make" robe is styled with cuffed raglan sleeves. Views 1 and 2 have round collars, short sleeves, pockets and optional tie belt. View 1, contrast bias binding trims collar, cuffs, and flaps. View 3, three-quarter length robe, fastens at neckline with purchased frog and features mandarin collar.

Misses' and Women's Accessory Set.
The blouse has a high round neckline and cap sleeves. There are no side seams but the front is drawn back and fastened with tape and the back is brought forward to lap over the front. Tie ends attached to the back fasten in a front bow. In Style II, the scarf is cut in five contrasting sections. It is knotted at the center and each end is brought forward and inserted through the knot. Style III, made of two scarves or handkerchiefs may be tied or drawn through a plastic ring. The belt has two sections and is trimmed with embroidery for which a transfer is included.

Childs/girls robe/housecoat, bed jacket, pants, pjs. The robe in view 1 & 2 and top in view 3 with about wrist-length raglan sleeves and high round neckline has front closing fastened with either buttons or decorative snap fasteners and an optional pocket. View 1 & 2 are ankle-length. View 1 has a mandarin-type collar and ribbon bow. Collarless view 2 has lace edging trim. A complete, "Simple To Make" skirt wardrobe to wear from daytime through date-time. View 1 features a billowy, evening length skirt that's softly pleated and has back opening. View 2 shows street length, bouffant skirt with soft pleats all-'round, back opening. Views 3 and 4 are sheath skirts with high-rise waistlines. There are openings at lower edges of side seams and side zipper closings. View 3 is evening length and View 4 is street length.
