While this ring-gauge card probably dates to the 1890s, Bailey Banks & Biddle is still in business today with an online presence and a number of retail jewelry stores, including one near Philadelphia at the King of Prussia Mall.

Tiny lacy Hitchhiker scarf for Whisper, I used some leftover soft yarn from the stash. Silversmith Maggie Wagner made my precious ragdoll Whisper, and made her a tiny silver shawl pin too! How cute is that!

Longfellow immortalized Paul Revere as a Revolutionary War patriot in Paul Revere's Ride ("Listen, my children, and you shall hear / Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere"). But Revere was also an accomplished silversmith. John Singleton Copley portrayed him holding one of his creations. In the Americas Wing of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

This one is a very extreme image, with the exposure time being four minutes, and then there was a further four minutes waiting for the in-camera long exposure noise reduction to complete.

Die Bergkirche St. Marien am Annaberger Marktplatz ist die einzige "knappschaftliche Sonderkirche" in Sachsen. Es waren tatsächlich Bergleute, die das Gotteshaus in den Jahren 1502 bis 1511 erbaut haben. Heute hat St. Marien eine ganz spezielle Funktion. Es sind dort nämlich ganzjährig die Figuren der "Annaberger Weihnachtsgeschichte" ausgestellt, die inzwischen einige Berühmtheit erlangt hat. Die Holzskulpturen entstanden in den Jahren 2000-2015 und erhalten die große Tradition der Erzgebirgischen Holzschnitzkunst lebendig. Selbst nach dem offiziellen Abschluss des Projekts, an dem fünf Künstler beteiligt waren, kommen immer noch weitere Figuren hinzu. Bis dato existieren (mindestens) schon 35. Jede von ihnen ist ca. 1,20 m groß und farbig gefasst. Die Kunstwerke stellen Menschen aus dem 19. Jahrhundert dar und repräsentieren einen großen Teil der Berufs- und Bevölkerungsgruppen, die damals im Erzgebirge anzutreffen waren - vom Bäcker bis zum Pfarrer, und von der Spitzenklöpplerin bis zum kleinen Chorknaben. Der Heilige Josef zum Beispiel ist als Bergzimmerer dargestellt. Es gibt aber auch einen Gastwirt und mehrere Marktfrauen, eine komplette Bäckersfamilie, einen Silberschmied und vieles mehr.
English translation:
The mountain church of St. Marien on the Annaberg market square is the only dedicated "Knappschafts" church in Saxony (a "Knappschaft" is a traditional corporation of miners). In deed it were workers from the ore mines around Annaberg who built the church in the years between 1502 and 1511. Today St. Marien has a very special function: The building hosts the sculptures which form a large cycle which is known as the “Annaberg Christmas Story. The characters are exhibited in the church all year round. The wooden sculptures were created between 2000 and 2015 and keep the famous tradition of Erzgebirge wood carving alive. Five local artists joined in the project; and even after its completion from time to time a new work is being added. To date there are (at least) 35 of them. Each one is approx. 1.20 m tall and colored. All these works of art depict people from the 19th century and represent a large part of the professional and population groups that could be found in the Erzgebirge at that time - from bakers to priests, and from lace makers to little choir boys. Saint Joseph, for example, is depicted as a mine carpenter. There is an innkeeper as well, and you will find several market women, a complete baker's family, a proud silversmith and much more.

In the museum of Thessaloniki , northern Greece , the Balkans.She became a totem for the Roman Calvary that may have included Celtic conscripts or mercenaries.Not that many Gallic deities were absorbed into the occupying Roman ways.Cernunnos a 'lord of the forest' was another whose sculptures or depictions are mainly in ancient Gaul or France as well as being one of the recognisable deities on the Celtic pantheon of the Gundestrup Cauldron likely made by commission of silversmiths from Thrace who where themselves occupied by Celtic tribes for a least a century BCE.
"Epona, a patroness of horses, was a Celtic/Gallic/Keltoi goddess of horses, popular in many parts of Europe. Her worship in Thessalonki/Salonika, Greece may have been introduced by the Roman Emperor Galerius, who descended from a region along the river Danube.This deity became popular with the Roman cavalry before the Christian period or may have overlapped in time.This relief is the only evidence of Epona's cult in southern Macedonia, 4th c AD." Slightly edited.The worship of Epona, "the sole Celtic divinity ultimately worshipped in Rome itself", was widespread in the Roman Empire between the first and third centuries AD; this is unusual for a Celtic deity, most of whom were associated with specific localities.A good site for those who want to know more about this Celtic /Gallic goddess taken up by the Roman Cavalry influence.

Galerius was born either in Gamzigrad in eastern Serbia with the Danube to the south or in modern Sofia to the north. For the longest time the city of Sofia possessed a Thracian name, derived from the tribe Serdi, who today are most often defined as a Thracian tribe, whereas, it is also speculated that the Serdi were Celts.

The archaeological site of Gamzigrad (Felix Romuliana), is a memorial complex of the Roman Emperor from the time of the tetrarchy – Galerius, that ruled from 297 till 311 AD.
Buda villa, built c1862, was bought by Hungarian-born silversmith Ernest Leviny, whose family occupied it for 118 years (1863–1981).
It was added to in 1890 and renamed Buda.
Ernest Leviny arrived in Australia in 1853 during the goldrush era, choosing to stay in the township of Castlemaine. With his wife Bertha, and their talented children, Ernest developed Buda from the rather modest Indian bungalow purchased in 1863, to a handsome home set in enchanting gardens.
Buda displays the furnishings, artworks and domestic effects of its former owners.
Buda is registered by Heritage Council Victoria.

The Hmong are scattered throughout many countries, including China, Laos, Vietnam and Thailand. Within Thailand they are found in many provinces, including Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Mae Hong Son and Tak. They belong to the Meo-Yao branch of the Austro-Thai linguistic group. The Hmong are the second largest tribal group after the Karen.
There are three subgroups of Hmong to be found in Thailand: the Blue Hmong (Mong Njua), the White Hmong (Hmong Daw) and the Hmong Gua M'ba. The White Hmong and the Hmong Gua M'ba are very similar, the latter have only been in Thailand for a few years (they came across the border from Laos). The White Hmong women wear indigo trousers on most occasions but have a white pleated skirt for special occasions. The Blue Hmong women wear an indigo batik design skirt at all times, the skirt having many many pleats.
Hmong families are patrilineal and polygamy is allowed. After marriage wives move into the husband's house. The extended family is the most important unit in a Hmong village and after that the clan is most important. Clans are identified by their name and most villages normally have families from more than one clan. Marriage within the clan is not allowed.
The Hmong prefer to set their villages at high altitudes of 1000-1200m and practice shifting cultivation. They will often move great distances in search of new and better land. Their primary crops are dry rice and corn with vegetables for cash crops.
The Hmong worship their ancestors and many other spirits. The village priest and shaman are very important people in the village. Their ceremonies also show their close connections to Chinese culture.
New Year, after the rice harvest is the most important ceremony of the year and you will often see the people wearing silver, which is a sign of wealth. The Hmong men are accomplished silversmiths.

Erbaut wurde das Anwesen als Wohnhaus und Werkstätte im 16. Jahrhundert. Von 1640 bis 1920 befand sich hier eine Silbrrschmiede, und 1977 wurde eine solche wieder eingerichtet, die bis heute besteht.
The property was built as a residence and workshop in the 16th century. From 1640 to 1920 there was a silversmith's workshop here, and in 1977 one was re-established, which still exists today.
