I've somehow become an over-sharer lately. So here it is, another vintage try of mine featuring my favourite old purse, made of hand-linked tiny silver rings from fin-de-siecle or thereabouts.

The gorgeous Silver-spotted Skipper is probably one of my favourite butterflies. It's one of the last species to emerge in late summer and certainly worth waiting for imo.

We have some "silver dollar" plants growing on the side of our house so I cut some and put them in a vase. Not sure how common these are. They were here when we purchased the house and they come up every year.
For a brief period of time, Autumn denuded trees along the Bow river shimmer like silver bells on a Christmas tree. Like the Horse Tail in Yosemite or the red Maple leaves of Northern Ontario's Autumn, this moment takes shape and lasts for a few brief days. If the day is overcast as many are during this period, the chance encounter waits another year. However, like most who have lived in their location for a while, one gets to know the terrain and can capitalize on the moment.
The afternoon low level sun rays penetrate the riverbed trees, while a background hill throws the forest into shade. Gnarled tree trunks are blackened and the thin branches catch the afternoon sunlight for just a brief time. The ground grasses appear to be on fire as they turn brown preparing for their winter respite. And, for just a brief time, a unique opportunity presents itself.

A male silver-beaked tanager ( Ramphocelus carbo) in the South American Aviary of the Reid Park Zoo in Tucson, Arizona.
Went back for a second visit to this small heath to get some more shots of this pretty butterfly.Didn't expect to find another pristine pair mating..but I did, and just had to take some more shots...

Just north of our city we hardly notice these hills as we drive past on the motorway but towards the end of the day they are worth a look.
Getting Started with some Halloween photos. I'm feeling inspired by scary movies this year. So I'm starting things off with Silver Bullet. The story of a Werewolf Priest and the boy who knows to much.
This Silver Fox is one of two captive foxes at Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary. For various reasons they cannot be returned to the wild. Silver Foxes are melanistic versions of red foxes and occur naturally in nature on a ratio of about 1:4.

this is Silver, half brother to Diablo (yesterday's post). Silver's sire is in the first comment box below, which is a picture I took of Artemis in the most recent shoot I did with him. I think they look so much alike it's crazy. Silver is still young of course, so his mane, tail and feathers haven't grown out yet to the magnificence of Artemis's. In time though, I'm sure they will.
This photo along with Diablos's was taken in late afternoon sun and it was still a tiny bit smoky so it really added to the golden tones of the overall photo

This is Bheinn a Chlaidheimh taken from the slopes of An Teallach as the clouds built up in the afternoon. I loved the corniced ridge to the left of the summit, and also these beautiful wisps of cloud that mirrored the slopes. It's all part of the great wilderness and is a place I'd love to explore! The track Silver Joy by Damien Jurado seemed right!

Fascinating is the plant that can visually hook gardeners, not with fancy foliage nor flashy flowers, but rather dried seed pods—those faded leftovers of a glorious growing season. Well, welcome to the strangely fascinating world of lunaria (Lunaria annua) also known as silver dollar plant or money plant because of the round, parchment-like seed casings it produces in late summer that have the shimmer of freshly minted silver coins.

Small and old tarnished silver whistle. Lighting inspired by Brian of www.flickr.com/photos/macro-merriment/49881114708 His lighting and experiment with his new softbox kicked me out of bed this morning.
Not sure how the silver chain’s bokeh balls (above) appear on top of the whistle. If this is a physics thing, don’t try to explain ;-)
Lighting: two lights on stands triggered by off-camera strobe. Softbox prevents bright hot spots and bounces light all around the whistle.
Off briefly for our grocery pickup--a trip in the car!
Silver Falls State Park, Marion County, Oregon. Close up of the bottom half of the lower South Falls. This park is a waterfall lover's dream with ten falls over an 8.7 mile stretch of looping trails. We visited a little past peak foliage and it was just a quick stop on the way back to Portland, but still plenty of color in the trees and along the trail. Only visited two of the falls but from what we saw this place is definitely worth a visit of a few days or more.
The Silver Teal is a small puddle duck that is widely distributed across Southern South America. It can be found in a variety of freshwater wetland types, and usually nests in shoreline vegetation. Two subspecies of Silver Teal have differentiated over a north to south gradient, and the Puna Teal of the Andes was formerly considered to be conspecific. These ducks are well patterned with a dark cap, pale cream face, and gray, black, and white barred flanks; the wings show a green speculum bordered by white. Picture taken at Lagoa do Peixe - RS.

Dione juno (Silver-Spotted Flambeau / Mariposa con manchas plateadas)
The Silver-Spotted Flambeau is found in Central and South America, from Mexico to Paraguay. Unlike other Heliconian species, the Silver-Spotted Flambeau does not feed on pollen. They prefer open, sunny areas, and may be found up to 2500 m in altitude.
