Some places seem to have an inherent power that attracts people over the course of centuries. Glanum is a small valley at the base of craggy, bare, white hills, and it attracted a long succession of residents.
It was first settled by Celts, who venerated things like springs that flow out of rock. The town was influenced by the Greeks (who summered nearby in Marseille). Then of course the Romans had to have it. They seized it around 100 AD.
During the Augustan Empire the Romans built villas, baths, a youth-worshipping temple, forum, and a disco here. But then the Franks and the Alemanni, who hadn't actually ever bathed, invaded Gaul. They sacked Glanum in 270 or so.
The medieval populace moved a mile or so north, to what would become St-Remy-de-Provence. The abandonned Glanum flooded, filled up with silt, and was forgotten for 1600 years.
Anyway, I figured that the springs—which drew all these people to this place— must have some spiritual or medicinal value so I stuck my foot in here. It was very cold.

Same shoot as the following one, this was the 'happy accident' of that day.
So overexposed by the headlight but to me, it made more of an image when I looked through them.
this barely shows just how much effort and love went into the decorating and set-up at the silent auction!!! Thank you all for your well wishes....we raised about $2800.00 for the care center!!!!!
