This was never a common sight in my time living in Kansas City, but these days, it is extremely rare, especially with favorable light. But the Railroad Gods looked out for me on this day. Luckily, this was a Saturday morning with no traffic around on the Woodsweather Bridge. I was able to stop, get out and get a few shots of this stopped KCS grain (100 cars). Okay, so he found them. But what now? I mean he still has to find a way to get one of them out into rush hour traffic and they don't appear to be going anywhere...

We have an outdoor shooting range at our family homestead in Wisconsin. This is my brother sighting in his latest acquisition against our well beaten steel targets.
I was lucky enough to observe an amazing sight this week. Monday through Friday there was an egret/heron feeding frenzy on the two golf course water features near our house. There were seven egrets there on Monday and by mid week the number had grown to 18. About 2/3 of the birds were snowy egrets. The rest were great white egrets. There were also a couple of green herons, a few cormorants and one mystery bird. I shot pictures Monday through Friday mornings but by Saturday the birds were gone. Most of these pictures were taken about 7:45 in the morning on very foggy days, which means the light was weak and flat so I was pushing the limits of my equipment and ability. But watching these big (mostly), white (mostly) fish was amazing.
The Search For Elephants: Part 1
After postulating that it would be amusing to just once come across an elephant crossing the road while on my drive to work my stealthy friend here seems to have taken it upon himself to actually track down a pedestrian pachyderm. I'm curious how far he will go...
