For the cylinders on Myanmar Railways 2-8-2 no YD.967. Though this is the fireman's side there is a handle for the regulator. Injector water valve bottom left. Not sure what the other valves are but one is almost certainly the injector steam.
when we gave odin his nickname, i had no idea that we'd eventually move to southwestern wisconsin which is home to a large norwegian community that seem to be big fans of the Original Odin.
not only is he not the only child named odin in town ( in fact, there were two other odins, but one of them recently moved ), but it's also the kind of place where you can drive down an otherwise unassuming country road and pass odin avenue!
if the sign suddenly goes missing, i didn't have anything to do with it and you won't find it hanging in his bedroom.

Seems this type of sighting is getting frequent. This was in the sw sky last night from Montreal. It stayed in the same spot in the sky for a good half hour. I actually drove to a darker spot in LaSalle by the river away from the glare of lights. It all of a sudden started flying west in the sky then disappeared. I know you think I'm nuts but?
I would like to thank all the young and old gentlemen at my local railway station for wearing their DMs with pride today. Never had so many sightings at the station before!

We took a trip out last year 2019. The museum were interested in some of Dad's old photos from the air field. We had a great day out and the hot dogs, cake and coffee were perfect. Next time we will introduce ourselves but the show was in full swing when we arrived so we had a good look around and headed for the canteen. :-) Very interesting exhibits.

Being a medic, I refused to have all the bells and whistles that my infantry buds lusted after... besides I'm a dead-eye with just my iron sights anyways.
And since we're in Iraq, its ALWAYS dusty no matter how many times I clean it. Whoever invented dust should be shot.

Sound for Sight is raising funds and awareness towards Sightsavers’ work eliminating the World’s leading cause of preventable blindness, trachoma.
Trachoma is a bacterial infection linked to inadequate water and sanitation and passed on by flies. It is referred to as ‘neglected tropical diseases’ and can be prevented and ultimately eliminated entirely.
The Sound for Sight audience will be taken on a spectacular sensory experience during the show that has been carefully curated by Sound for Sight Founder, Laura Westcott and ‘Mo Pleasure’ the former Music Director of Earth, Wind & Fire.
Charlotte Kelly, Soul II Soul
Charlotte rose to fame in the mid 1990s as one of the lead singers of British R&B group Soul II Soul, with hit songs “Back to Life” and “Keep on Movin”.
Charlotte was born blind at birth with no sight at all in her left eye and virtually none in her right eye.
“I am very excited and delighted to perform at Sound for Sight because being blind from birth, sound is one of the most important tools we possess as blind and visually impaired people. Denise Leigh
Denise made her operatic debut in 2003 by winning Channel 4’s Operatunity and playing the role of Gilda in Verdi’s Rigoletto at the London Coliseum.
Since then, Denise has sung all over the world and was honoured to headline the London 2012 Paralympic opening ceremony.
Both Denise and her husband Stefan (who will accompany Denise on piano) are visually impaired with a visually impaired son.

Mo Pleasure
Mo is a renowned multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer. Mo began his professional music career playing bass guitar with Ray Charles. In 1993, Mo became a member of the legendary group Earth, Wind & Fire, and ascended to become the band’s musical director from 1994-2001.
Mo has performed with Stevie Wonder, Nile Rogers, Bette Midler, Roberta Flack, Amy Winehouse to name a few… He also played keys for Michael Jackson on his final comeback tour at the O2.
Dave Swift
Dave joined Jools Holland’s Rhythm and Blues Orchestra in 1991 as his resident bass player, and has played with him ever since! He is one of the UK’s finest, high-profile bass players and boasts a musician’s portfolio that is second to none, having played for an array of renowned artists, from George Benson and Chaka Khan to Eric Clapton and Paul Simon.
Professor Dan Reinstein
Dan is a pioneer in laser eye surgery and Founded the London Vision Clinic. He is also a very talented saxophonist and often accompanies Mo Pleasure at London’s iconic 606 Club.
Georgia & The Vintage Youth
A 22 year old Essex Girl with big blonde hair, a spine-tingling voice and a master of the retro jazz/swing style of music that is both vintage and fresh (hence the name of the band).
Georgia’s sound is contagious and subconsciously gets you tapping your feet, whilst her ballads are stripped back allowing Georgia’s strong and iconic vocal to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end.
Joe Slater
A 22-year-old lad from Liverpool who blurs the lines between Blues, Soul and Rock ‘n’ Roll whilst taking inspiration from The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen and Oasis.

At first, I thought the range markings too worn to read but some work with a sanding block revealed the range markings hidden beneath the grime and yak grease. According to the specs, the Martini Henry rifle was sighted from 100-1500 yards, 100-400 yards via an 100 yard incremental graduated ramp, and 500-1500 yards raised leaf back-sight. And, while it looks like the numbers are 900, 200, 300, 800 they are, in fact, Nepali for 100, 200, 300, 400.

Devon Island (Inuit: Tatlurutit), located in Baffin Bay, Qikiqtaaluk Region, Nunavut, Canada, is the world's largest uninhabited island. The ground remains frozen for almost the entire year, particularly the eastern third of the island, which is permanently covered by an ice cap some 500 to 700 meters thick. During the brief (40 to 55 days) growing season in the summer temperatures seldom exceed 50 °F and the ground is snow-free. In winter temperatures can plunge to as low as −58 °F).
Due to its relatively high elevation and its extreme northern latitude, Devon Island receives very little precipitation, resulting in a barren polar desert ecology, dominated by frost-shattered rocks and nearly devoid of plants and animals.
The lowlands are poorly drained favoring the growth of some moss over which Musk-Oxen graze year-round. The cold and wet soil is inhabited by invertebrates such as worms, protozoa, midge and fly larvae. The island also has a few bird populations.
For scientist and researchers, Devon Island is an extremely interesting place. Its desert setting and harsh climate is very similar to conditions on Mars.
Devon Island is the site of the Haughton impact crater, created approximately 39 million years ago when a meteorite about 1.2 mi in diameter slammed into what were then forests. The incident was so violent that rocks as far below as 1 mile were brought up to the surface. Because there is no flowing water due to the freezing temperature, weathering is minimal.
The impact left a crater about 14 mi in diameter, which was a lake for several million years. It retains many geological features that craters elsewhere lose to erosion. The Haughton impact crater area is said to have one of the most Mars-like terrain on earth.
It is the summer home to NASA's Haughton Mars Project, which studies how human explorers might live and work on other planetary objects, in particular on Mars. The
Haughton Mars Project has conducted geological, hydrological, botanical, and microbiological studies in this harsh environment since 1997.
“Devon Island's barren terrain, freezing temperatures, isolation, and remoteness offer NASA scientists and personnel a number of unique research opportunities,” reads the project’s information page on NASA’s website. “Other factors, such as the Arctic day and night cycle and restricted logistics and communications capabilities, offer fitting analogs for the challenges that crewmembers will likely face on long-duration space flights.”

Viewing the forward grenade sight, launcher, muzzle and bayonet on my Yugoslavian SKS. It saw action in the civil war in the former country of Yugoslavia. The original stock developed a crack and was repaired at the factory. Then the rifle was eventually surplused to the US.
It had never been cleaned. It took me 45 minutes of cleaning just to be able to see the inside of the barrel instead of all the crud coating it. Another 30 minutes to get it properly cleaned. Then I started cleaning the exterior. The previous owner said the night sights were missing. NOPE. Just covered in gun powder residue and other gunk. Once cleaned and oiled, they operated just fine.
Now I have to buy some proper bullets and reload the cases to fire accurately. Common problem with the SKS and it's li'l brother, the AK-47, is that while the bullets are 7.62mm in diameter, the barrels are usually wider. This means the bullet wobbles as it travels down the barrel and accuracy is plus or minus 2.5 ft at 100 meters.
But if you find the true diameter of the barrel (it varies a lot) you can load the proper diameter bullet and get much better accuracy (plus or minus an inch, or less, at 100 meters). Part of the fun in reloading is finding the best combination of components to make your weapon as accurate as possible. And it means saving money on the ammunition, as components cost less than buying factory ammunition (25%-66% savings is common).

Unfortunately, this beautiful, very shy antelope is endangered in West Africa. Poaching is one of the reasons, but the most important reason is that they enter in competition with livestock, as they have the same ecological niche.
